In video footage of the Friday show captured by fans, Farrell walks toward Navarro as they perform the band's song "Ocean Size" and shoves the guitarist with his right shoulder. After backing off for a moment, Farrell approaches Navarro again, scowling, and begins shouting a few inches from his face as Navarro attempts to create distance between them with his forearm.

The interaction comes to a climax as Farrell throws a punch at Navarro's upper chest, prompting a crew member to intervene and separate the bandmates. Soon after, more crew members and bassist Eric Avery restrain Farrell as Navarro walks away.

Though the setlist for their latest tour usually includes three or four more songs after "Ocean Size," the group did not return to the stage after the scuffle.

Representatives for Farrell, Navarro, Jane's Addiction, and Live Nation did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly's request for comment.

Farrell's wife, Etty Lau Farrell, posted about the incident on Instagram on Saturday morning. "Clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members," she wrote. "The magic that made the band so dynamic. Well, the dynamite was lit. Perry got up in Dave's face and body-checked him."

Lau Farrell said her husband was upset by the sound levels on stage, claiming that he was "screaming just be to be heard" by the time "Ocean Size" began.

"Perry’s frustration had been mounting, night after night," she wrote. "He felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band. Perry had been suffering from tinnitus and a sore throat every night. But when the audience in the first row started complaining up to Perry, cussing at him that the band was planning [sic] too loud and that they couldn't hear him, Perry lost it."

Lau Farrell also claimed that the fan videos captured only part of the story, writing that the ultimate winner of the tussle was Avery. "While Dave was keeping Perry at arm's length to deescalate the situation, Dan rushed over to deescalate as well by holding Perry back," she explained. "Dave walked away to take his guitar off. Eric walked up to Perry upstage in the dark behind Dan, put Perry in a headlock, and punched him in the stomach three times. Kevin, [the] crew member with [long hair], pulled Eric away. Then Eric, nonchalant, walked off to the front of the stage to apologize to [the] audience for the show [ending] early."

The singer's wife also described the aftermath of the heated encounter. "Dave still looked handsome and cool in the middle of a fight," she wrote. "Perry was a crazed beast for the next half an hour — he finally did not [sic] calm down, but did break down and cried and cried. Eric, well, he either didn't understand what descalation [sic] meant or took advantage of the situation and got in a few cheap shots on Perry."
