Jamie Lee Curtis Says Husband Christopher Guest ‘Still Makes Me Laugh’ as Couple Celebrates 40-Year Wedding Anniversary
"I’m like the most immature guest you’ve ever had. So how is it possible that I am married 40 years?" the actress said on the 'Today' show
Jamie Lee Curtis knows how to keep a marriage alive!
The actress, 66, opened up about being married to Christopher Guest for nearly 40 years during a Dec. 12 appearance on the Today show to promote her roles in The Sticky and The Last Showgirl.
On the talk show, she opened up about the joy that Guest continues to bring to her life as they approach their 40th anniversary – which is on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Curtis shared that she is in disbelief over the longevity of her marriage, saying, "But look at me: I’m like the most immature — ask your crew, I’m like the most immature guest you’ve ever had. So how is it possible that I am married 40 years? I don’t understand it."
Co-host Hoda Kotb then asked her about what keeps them together.
"Do you guys just keep growing together? What is it?" Kotb asked Curtis.
"You know what, it is that," the Oscar winner replied. "Ultimately, Chris wasn’t a director when I married him, I wasn’t a writer. Chris wasn’t a producer when I married him, I wasn’t a producer when he married me. We have grown into these new jobs that we’ve done."
Curtis went on to describe how Guest enriches her life. "He still makes me laugh more than any human being and I’m sure there’s something about me that he likes," she said.
The actress continued, "I don’t know what it is, but I’m sure it’s something."
The couple got married in 1984 after six months of dating and share two daughters: Annie and Ruby.
During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Curtis recounted meeting Guest after seeing his photo in a magazine. "I called his agent and left my number, he never called me. We ran into each other in a restaurant, he kind of went like this [waves], I went like this [waves], he called me the next day. We went out," she said.
The Emmy winner went on to say that she recently "found the receipt of when he went into Cartier to buy this very ring on my finger."
"He was shooting SNL in New York and I was shooting the movie Perfect. I was on something called a payphone where you put quarters in and I remember we were speaking and I said, 'What did you do today?' " she said.

Guest told her he "went for a walk" around the city and mentioned that he visited a Cartier store.
Curtis continued, "And then in typical boy fashion, 'Do you like diamonds?' Now, I'm telling the truth. So then he came out to Los Angeles and... Well, he proposed in a more private and intimate way.”
Her latest flick The Last Showgirl has a limited theatrical release on Friday, Dec. 13 and also stars Pamela Anderson, Dave Bautista and Brenda Song.
Directed by Gia Coppola, the drama follows glamorous showgirl Shelly (Anderson) as she is forced to reevaluate her life when her headlining show announces its closing after 30 years. In it, Curtis portrays a former showgirl who now works as a waitress.
