Jamie Lee Curtis reveals “Freakier Friday” features 'monster hit' song performed by Lindsay Lohan

Curtis tells EW that the song "is going to be the anthem song of the movie," while Lohan confirms there's "more physical comedy" in the Disney sequel.

Lindsay Lohan might have another "Ultimate" pop-rock hit on her... or... uh... Jamie Lee Curtis' hands in the upcoming body-swapping sequel Freakier Friday.

The 2003 Freaky Friday actresses tell Entertainment Weekly at Disney's D23 convention that the upcoming Nisha Ganatra-directed continuation of the comedy smash indeed features new music, after the prior film included memorable guitar-driven hits performed by the in-movie band Pink Slip, fronted by Anna (Lohan) and other returning stars Christina Vidal and Haley Hudson.

"Things get crazier now," Lohan, 38, tells EW of the movie's plot at the Anaheim, Calif.-based convention, where she and Curtis, 65, who plays Anna's mother, Tess, appeared together on stage at the city's Honda Center arena to reveal new details about the highly anticipated sequel.

Later, Curtis adds: "I'm telling you right now, this one played a song last night at the Wiltern [theater in Los Angeles] and it is in my ear like one of those Star Trek earworms. I'm telling you, it's going to be a monster hit. I'm not going to tell you what it's called because we're in the middle of making it, but there are some old favorites played in this movie."

Lohan confirms that the movie brings "some things back" from the prior installment, while Curtis doubles down on the "fantastic" new tune that she thinks "is going to be the anthem song of the movie." Lohan also teases that the song holds emotional weight for her, as she "can relate to the song" on a deeper level beyond the movie's narrative. Her assessment follows her recent return to music in general, as she dropped new pop material ("Back to Me" in 2020) and a soundtrack tune ("Jingle Bell Rock" from 2022's Falling for Christmas) after releasing two successful solo albums in the early aughts.

Despite Freakier Friday's emotional center, Lohan says "the switches are definitely freakier" than they were in the first movie, with Curtis agreeing that the tone is "way freakier" when it comes to supernatural body-switching this time around.

"Anna is grown up now. She has a teenage daughter, so there's a lot going on in that relationship. Although Anna has calmed down a bit since she was a teenager," Lohan explains of the "freakier and funnier" movie. It further pushes her to new heights when it comes to using her body for comedic effect.

"There's more physical comedy in this. Much more than the original. I love that. Put up a glass door and let me fake walk into it. Where do I get to trip?" Lohan jokes.

At heart, "there's a lot of love in it. Love and loss," Lohan admits, noting that it will go deeper in terms of exploring mother-daughter relationships than people are expecting. "It's a movie about life. And the first movie was about love and loss and life, and this is just freakier. It's more loving, more emotional," Curtis adds.

Earlier this year, EW obtained audition sides for Freakier Friday (including eight unverified script pages) that included plot details involving Anna (now with a 14-year-old daughter of her own) and Tess switching bodies with two teenage girls.

Besides Lohan, Curtis, Vidal, and Hudson, Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao also return for the sequel, with new additions to the cast including Once Upon a Time in Hollywood's Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons (Under Wraps), Never Have I Ever star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Manny Jacinto (The Good Place and The Acolyte), whom EW confirmed will play Anna's husband.

Freakier Friday is scheduled to hit theaters in 2025. Watch Lohan and Curtis discuss the sequel with EW in the video above.
