Jameela Jamil slams Meghan Markle reports: 'I met her once'

Brit actor Jameela Jamil has slammed reports by a UK publication that she is currently quarantining with Meghan Markle, 39, in her luxe new LA mansion.

The Good Place star, 34, took to Instagram to hit back at claims published by the Daily Express that suggested she and the Duchess were ‘best friends’ and ‘living together’ during lockdown.

“I’ve met this woman once ever,” Jameela captioned a screenshot of the article which was titled, ‘Meghan Markle’s new best friend? Luvvie Jameela Jamil ‘quarantines’ with Harry and Meghan’.

“Now [the press] are hyperbolising some relationship they have decided I have with her to make it seem as if I am saying these things out of ‘loyalty’ rather than because it’s right to call out misogyny and racism when you see it because an attack against her, is an attack on all WOC/Black women.

“She’s the symbol of hope and power to be deconstructed before any of us get any delusions of grandeur.”

Jameela, who was hand-picked by Vogue guest editor Meghan for the September issue cover in 2019, has been outspoken about the Duchess’ treatment at the hands of the tabloids, particularly those in the UK.

In October last year, she openly celebrated the Sussex’s decision to take legal action against The Mail on Sunday and others for launching a ‘ruthless campaign’ to vilify Meghan.

“FORK YEAH HARRY,” Jameela tweeted in response to Prince Harry’s statement in which he blasted the press for spreading ‘relentless propaganda’ about his wife.

And more recently, the mental health and body positivity activist tweeted in support of Meghan’s calls for Americans to vote in the upcoming election.

Elsewhere in her Instagram post, Jameela went on to reveal how her public defence of the actor-turned-royal in the past has seen her and her family also become the target of ‘press harassment’ and vicious rumours.

“Since the first time I spoke out against the UK (mostly tabloid) media over their racist behaviour towards [Meghan], I’ve been subjected to press harassment, my family started being harassed and offered money for dirt on me within a week of my first tweet in defense [sic] of her.

“What has followed has been a plethora of lies and rumours about me, set up to discredit me as an individual and convince people I am ‘crazy’ to devalue my opinion to anyone who may realise I am right.”

Jameela asked her followers to ‘keep this in mind’ when they read about her, Meghan or other women in media; “Especially if she has any colour to her skin.”

She added a final blow, accusing the tabloids of having nothing else ‘important to talk about’ such as the ‘pandemic, global economic crisis, climate disaster, political unrest.’
