Irina Shayk's Sheer Dress Makes the Case For the Lingerie-as-Eveningwear Trend

Sumptuous, sexy, and sheer.

Russian model Irina Shayk is the latest celeb to hop aboard the black sheer lace dress trend.

Attending the Vogue Italia 60th Anniversary X Ray-Ban event during Milan Fashion Week last night, the model donned a sensual, lingerie-esque dress with a black lace bodice and a sheer, flowing pleated maxi skirt. She paired the lingerie-meets-eveningwear dress with a dark red lip and a pair of black heeled sandals.

Shayk later walked the runway at the Max Mara fashion show during the Milan Womenswear Spring/Summer 2025 at Milan Fashion Week the following day.

Shayk is not the first to reach for sexy, sheer black lace of late—nor will she be the last. This trend is officially everywhere—Meghann Fahy's barely there black lace dress by Victoria Beckham; Lindsay Lohan's form-fitting maxi dress made of sheer black lace; Dakota Johnson's silk Gucci slipdress with the sheer lace bodice; Florence Pugh's sheer black lace premiere dress; Katy Perry's sheer black lace maxi skirt; Hailey Bieber's sheer black lace catsuit. Everywhere.

Although the black sheer dress may be 2024 fall trend, Shayk has long been a fan of the monochromatic all-black 'fit. Last year, she rocked a simple all-black look on the streets of New York and earlier this year, her vacation bikini was, you guessed it, black. Then there was this black oversized cardigan look this spring and this sheer LBD look last year. In other words, it's hardly a huge surprise that Shayk has leapt on board the sexy gothic eveningwear trend—after all, she's been repping the look for years.
