‘Insecure’ Cast Hosting Free ‘One of Them Days’ Screening For Fans Impacted By L.A. Fires

Although the One of Them Days premiere was canceled, some of producer Issa Rae‘s old pals are celebrating the release with fellow Angelenos.

The cast of HBO‘s Insecure will reunite to host a free screening of the new Keke Palmer/SZA buddy comedy on Saturday at 2pm at AMC The Grove 14 “for a moment of levity” for those impacted by the recent Los Angeles County wildfires.

“My @insecurehbo family! My community for life! Thank you!” wrote Rae on her Instagram Story, sharing a flier posted by her Insecure co-star Yvonne Orji, which reads: “We know the city is hurtin’ so we got y’all!”

Jay Ellis also shared the announcement, writing: “LA if you need a minute to take a break from it all… have a laugh on us.” Natasha Rothwell posted the flier as well, while co-star Kendrick Sampson and showrunner Prentice Penny praised the movie on social media.

The event comes after Sony previously canceled the Jan. 13 Hollywood premiere amid the wildfires that have left at least 25 people dead across Los Angeles County, forcing 105,000 to evacuate.

Written by Syreeta Singleton and directed by Lawrence Lamont, One of Them Days follows roommates Dreux (Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) as they race to make rent after Alyssa’s boyfriend blows their money.

Rae previously celebrated the film’s release on Instagram. “Today is officially ‘One of Them Days’. We made a whole movie. A comedy! Screening in theaters. Set and shot in LA. With a phenomenal first time feature director (@lawrencelamont). And a brilliant first time screenwriter (@reetafajita). It was hard as f—, but it was also hella fun and I’m proud of it. I hope you and your friends go see it on the big screen. And then I hope whenever you have ‘a day’ it becomes a comfort watch for you, like so many of my favorite movies from the 90s and the 2000s are for me,” she wrote.

“This is ultimately a film about community and I’m so grateful for mine,” added Rae.

Partially based on her web series Awkward Black Girl, Rae previously created and starred in Insecure for its five-season run on HBO from 2016 to 2021, earning three Golden Globe nominations and seven Emmy nods for her work.
