IM Men Flies in Paris for Fall 2025

For its first catwalk display in Paris, IM Men presented an elegant, fluid collection for fall 2025. The menswear line designed by MDS, the Miyake Design Studio, is the last brand established by the late designer Issey Miyake.

“His wish was to see a new kind of product and clothing for a male audience and consumers,” explained Sen Kawahara, a studio member. “In order to achieve that dream, he wanted to gather experts from different design fields.”

Those include engineering and textile. “Team-building was also very important,” Kawahara continued. That all feeds into the aim of creating garments for practical, everyday use.

IM Men launched in Japan in 2021 and globally in 2024. The theme for spring was “Fly With IM Men,” nodding to a pivotal show Miyake staged in 1977 in Japan, entitled “Fly With Issey Miyake.” There, the designer revealed what he could create from one piece of cloth, emoting a sense of freedom.

“By using the word to ‘fly,’ it means maybe people can wear a piece of cloth — and the garment — in any way they like,” Kawahara said.

“It was very important to use fabric, which is groundbreaking but also very lightweight,” added Nobutaka Kobayashi, another MDS member, referring to the new collection. A hollow, plant-based polyester yarn is an example.

That was used in wafting jackets, which when unsnapped become rectangular pieces of material. Such sustainable, multipurpose crafting was evident in other outerwear, too, coming in finely conceived fabrics made with state-of-the-art technology, such as perforated Ultrasuede, or traditional Japanese textile-making, like kasuri.

Volumnious silhouettes, draping and layering were melded together to a modern and luxurious effect. The richness was amplified by luscious colors — think burnt orange, azure, lemon yellow and roku purple.

IM Men is poised for takeoff.
