Home and Away's Sophie Dillman reveals her biggest Logies fear

Home and Away is up for a whopping six TV WEEK Logies this year, including the coveted award for Most Popular Drama Program.

Sophie Dillman (Ziggy Astoni) sat down with Yahoo Lifestyle to talk about all things Logies, including her biggest fear, what she's wearing and why she’s not prepared to win.

While the star has been up for a Logie Award before, this is the first time she’s been nominated in the Most Popular Actress category. When asked what could go wrong at The Logies, she doesn’t hesitate to share her biggest fear.

“The first thing that comes to mind is me tripping over and my dress ripping,” she confesses, before adding that 'everything' could go wrong on the night.

‘I nearly passed out’

The Logie Awards haven’t taken place since 2019, so the industry is looking forward to the glamorous event after Covid made the past two years really tough. Sophie admits that she never expected to be nominated, so she was ‘shocked’ when she found out.

“An event was hosted to celebrate that the Logies was happening, and I was announced as a nominee. I was there with Ray, and I nearly fell off my chair. I had to take a number of deep breaths in the bathroom,” she remembers.

Sophie dismisses the idea of preparing a winner's speech in advance, saying that the other stars in her category are her ‘acting heroes’. Her fellow nominees include Home and Away star Ada Nicodemou, Anna Torv, Bojana Novakovic, Deborah Mailman, and Kitty Flanagan.

“I honestly didn’t even think I would ever have my name alongside those people. They are some of my acting heroes. To have my name in the same categories is just mind-blowing, a dream come true,” she gushes.

“Truly, I nearly passed out when I found out [about the nomination], so writing a speech is a long way off,” the star adds.

Her Logies look

Fans are always desperate to see what the Home and Away stars end up wearing on the red carpet, and the anticipation for the 2022 Logies is at an all-time high.

Describing her Logies look in three words, the 28-year-old simply says: “Blake Lively, Who,” in reference to the Hollywood actress. Blake Lively is known as a red carpet icon, and stunned fans with her incredible colour-changing Met Gala dress earlier this year.

Delving into the process of putting her look together, the actor says she’s getting a custom dress created especially for her by designer Con Ilio, who also designed her intricate black dress for the 2019 Logies.

“He put sketches together, you say yes, no, tweak this, and it’s a big collaborative process. And then from there, I’ve spoken to my hair and makeup artist, who is the head of Home and Away makeup Laura,” she explains.

Sophie’s real-life and onscreen boyfriend Patrick O’Connor will also be attending The Logies, and while they haven’t intentionally coordinated their outfits, the star says his look will complement hers.

“It will probably look nice standing next to each other because of the colours that we’ve got going together. But he didn’t have to, and his suit is delicious,” she teases.

‘It’s a dream’

The star hasn’t taken anything for granted and is delighted to have the chance to celebrate Summer Bay’s success. Describing the opportunity to meet fellow actors at the Logie Awards as ‘a dream’, she can’t hide her excitement.

“Being in a room [full] of everyone that you have always wanted to work with, all standing right in front of you, and you don’t know where to look or who to speak to or anything like that. It’s a dream,” she says.

Home and Away has launched so many acting careers, boasting alumni such as Samara Weaving, Isla Fisher and Chris Hemsworth, with the show known for filming at an extremely fast pace.

Even though the cast and crew will be celebrating The Logies on Sunday, it will be back to work as normal the very next day. While Sophie hasn’t had to work the day after the award ceremony, she spills on what happened when Patrick O’Connor and Tim Franklin found themselves in that situation.

“The first year that I went to The Logies, Patrick and Tim Franklin had to film [the next day] and they were on a five o’clock flight back to the studio, and I’m unsure whether they had any sleep at all,” she starts.

“I can confirm that they definitely fell asleep in takes during the whole day of filming,” she laughs.

Voting for the 2022 TV WEEK Logie Awards is now open, and fans can vote until the red carpet ends on Sunday, June 19.
