Home and Away's Lynne McGranger 'unrecognisable' in throwback

Home and Away actress Lynne McGranger has been portraying Irene Roberts in Summer Bay for almost 30 years, after joining the soap in 1993.

While the star is known for her wavy red locks, she sported a short blonde pixie cut in the '90s, making her look almost unrecognisable.

Lynne actually replaced actress Jacqy Phillips, who played the character of Irene from 1991 to 1992.

A fan unearthed a clip from the ‘early years’, where Irene and Alisa have a heated argument in the storeroom. Fans were shocked by how different Lynne looked in 1994 compared to now.

“I always thought Irene had deep red hair. How long was she blonde for?” one fan asked.

“I love this argument,” a fan piped in, with another adding: “You can tell Irene’s been bottling that up for a while can’t you lol”.

A former crew member also shared some interesting behind-the-scenes tidbits, saying that most of the products seen in the background were provided for free.

“Bread due to its freshness came to the loading dock weekly and was also used for diner food. We always had too much and gave lots away,” they wrote.

“The Art Department had a separate storeroom off set to store all the Stewart’s store product. It was one of my favourite sets design-wise.”

Another clip was shared on social media, with Irene singing a country song at a ‘Talent Quest Nite’.

Donning a large cowboy hat, boots and a tight white minidress, the star clutched the microphone and gave the performance her all.

“She’s at it again! Wonder if Lynne McGranger still remembers the lyrics,” the fan quipped.

“Actually forgot about these scenes,” another fan added.

“They wouldn’t do anything like that these days. Would be too light-hearted and daft,” another wrote.
