Home and Away’s Mackenzie Booth (Emily Weir) and Levi Fowler (Tristan Gorey) have been embroiled in a scandalous affair this year, and many fans have criticised the storyline. Although Summer Bay has seen its fair share of adultery, it seems viewers just can't get on board with this particular duo.

The couple grew close when Levi saved Mackenzie’s life after she suffered from a heart attack. After the doctor swore he wasn’t in love with his wife Imogen Fowler (Georgia Blizzard), the pair decided the risks that came with a steamy affair were worth taking.

Now that the pair have come clean and are trying to make a go of their relationship, fans have slammed the characters for constantly talking about all the issues they’ve been through together and that they “deserve” happiness.

“Was anyone else struggling every time Mac and Levi talked about ‘all they had been through’ and ‘they deserve this’, I mean really? Are they looking for sympathy?” one fan wrote in a Facebook fan group.

“So Mac deserves to be happy – in that case Imogen isn’t important as she obviously doesn’t ‘deserve to be happy’, as long as Mac is. So if your partner or spouse gets infatuated with someone he or she meets and they end up together, that’s fine as they ‘deserve to be happy’ – but you don’t? To quote Alf – strewth!” another agreed.

“Levi never respected his marriage. The fact that he took Mac to the fundraiser event was inappropriate, he totally acted like a free agent. Then when Bree came on to him, he never shut it down. I bet he is a serial cheater. Then Mac not wanting him to leave his wife, and enjoying the sneaking around,” a third wrote. “Now both of them acting like victims. He’s lucky he got his stuff back, I would have dumped it at the tip! They both make me sick!”

“Don’t feel sorry for them, both knew what they were doing. Mackenzie could have found a bachelor easily but she had to destroy Imogen’s happiness. Imogen is so good, I feel so sad for Imogen,” another added.

Not surprisingly, the majority of Home and Away fans discussing this particular storyline are convinced the pair aren’t going to last. So much of their relationship’s foundation is built on lying, cheating and sneaking around.

It’s disappointing for many to see Mackenzie in yet another doomed relationship.

“Surely they must know what they’ve done is pretty awful. The affair won’t last long because he’s a serial cheater,” one person wrote.

“Also hilarious that it’s so early in their relationship and he’s already lying to her, and she’s already going through his phone,” another pointed out.

SHOP:

“I wouldn’t trust Levi as far as I could throw him, particularly when he claimed to have loved Imogen. It would have been different if he was in a very unhappy marriage but to cheat on a good woman who had done nothing wrong is making it so much harder to root for them as a couple. I don’t see this lasting. Once a cheater, always a cheater – at least most of the time.”

Upcoming episode descriptions state that Mackenzie and Levi are about to be rocked by a dangerous “nightmare”, with Mali Hudson (Kyle Shilling) racing to rescue the couple. Will they make it out alive and will their relationship survive yet another test? Only time will tell.
