Hidden detail spotted in MasterChef star Brent Draper's family announcement

The season 15 star has shared some exciting news on social media.

MasterChef Australia star Brent Draper has revealed that he and his wife Shonleigh are expecting their second child together.

The fan-favourite contestant took to Instagram last week to post a sweet video of himself and Shonleigh sharing the news with their four-year-old son Alfie.

“We’ve got some news to tell you,” he said. “Guess what? Mummy’s having a baby!”

“I know that,” Alfie hilariously replied, before expressing doubt over whether it was actually true

After some convincing, Alfie guessed his new sibling was going to be a boy because he’s always wanted a brother, and whispered “I love you” into his mother’s belly.

Alongside the video, Brent wrote in the caption: “Excited to share the next project we’ve been working on with you. Baby Draper 2.0 coming soon!!”

He also used Lily Allen’s cover of Somewhere Only We Know to soundtrack the announcement, which was interestingly the song featured in all of the ads for this year’s season of MasterChef: Secrets & Surprises.

Brent's co-stars send their well wishes

A number of fellow MasterChef stars took to the comments of Brent’s post to congratulate him on the news, including Julie Goodwin, Kishwar Chowdhury and Tessa Boersma.

“Yes bro! Always knew you could do it. Congratulations guys,” season 13 winner Justin Narayan wrote, while Minoli De Silva added, “Could Alfie be any cuter?”

“I think the name Theo is lovely,” his season 15 co-star Theo Loizou joked.

“Yayyy so exciting!! Congrats guys,” Malissa Fedele shared, followed by Phil Conway who said, “Best news ever”.

“Congratulations Brent, Alfie is so cute and took the news like a champ,” one fan replied. “All the best and safe pregnancy to your partner. Can't wait to see all the amazing food creations you come up with for her cravings.”

Brent initially appeared on season 13 of MasterChef but withdrew from the competition to prioritise his mental health, making him the first contestant to voluntarily leave the reality show.

The former tradie then returned for this year’s season and is currently one of the final seven contestants battling it out for the title and $250,000.
