Henry Winkler Shares the Rules His 6 Grandkids Must Follow When They Visit: 'There Are Only a Few' (Exclusive)

The actor is a grandfather to kids India, Ace, Lulu, Jules, Gus, Francis Joan, and one on the way

Henry Winkler has some ground rules when his grandkids come by the house — well, just a few.

While chatting with PEOPLE about his new DIRECTV commercial with Steve Buscemi, the Happy Days star 78, opened up about his life as a joyful grandfather to his "six and three-quarters grandchildren," India, Ace, Lulu, Jules, Gus, Francis Joan and one on the way.

"It is different, completely different than being a parent, " the dad of three tells PEOPLE, "but it is filled with the same emotion."

He adds, "We now have six and three-quarters grandchildren. Every one of them is different. You have to approach each one completely differently."

While each of his grandkids differs from each other, Winkler's household rules have remained steady.

"Now the rules in the house, and there are a few, only a few, are the same," he tells PEOPLE. "When the youngest granddaughter is sleeping, there is no fighting, there is no yelling. They are in charge of their friends to keep it down. "

Last but not least, Winkler says, "No matter what age they are, from 14 to 7, they have to clear their dish."

Winkler has been married to his wife Stacey since 1978. The couple share children Max, 38, and Zoe Emily, 42, along with his stepson, Jed Weitzman, 51, from Stacey's previous marriage to lawyer Howard Weitzman.

In June 2023, Winkler appeared on The Jennifer Hudson Show, revealing that he loves to dance with his grandkids on TikTok.

"I'm only on TikTok with my grandkids," the actor told Jennifer Hudson. "My oldest granddaughter, India, said 'Papa, you have to make a TikTok.'"

"So I think I've made 7 or 8, but only, mostly, with them," he confirmed, later sharing that he "loves dancing" after growing up seeing the folk ballet and West Side Story.

Winkler also shared with PEOPLE he recently completed the next adventure for his children's Detective Duck series - which even Queen Camilla loves!

Following strong reviews for the first chapter book about the curious duck, Winkler's co-author Lin Oliver "and I just finished the third installment," he says.
