"Harlem" Star Tyler Lepley Opened Up About The Public Pressure To Propose To His Fiancé Miracle Watts, And I Love His Reason For Waiting
Harlem's Tyler Lepley is sharing the importance of waiting to do things when you're ready, instead of following the timeline of others.
While promoting the upcoming premiere of the show's third and final season, Tyler and the cast — including Meagan Good, Shoniqua Shandai, Jerrie Johnson, and Grace Byers — stopped by Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club to share updates on their personal lives, as well as Harlem.
The series dives into the lives of these Black professionals as they navigate relationships, friendships, and career development.
During the interview, Tyler opened up about his recent engagement to his fiancé, model and entrepreneur, Miracle Watts, and the pressure from fans to pop the question.
Tyler and Miracle met on set in 2021 while filming Season 2 of P-Valley. They began that summer. In October 2022, the couple welcomed their first child together — a son named Xi Leí Lepley.
In late November, the couple announced their engagement with a carousel and video documenting the night, which was filled with white roses and a beautiful engagement ring.
Despite feeling like he knew he wanted to marry Miracle the day they met, he also understood the importance of taking time to get to know your partner.
"When it comes to any relationship, whether we're talking about my fiancé Miracle or my sisters right here [gestures to his co-stars], it behooves us to really take our time with it," Tyler said. "To figure out a place where we can get in, where it's a true give-and-take relationship, where we're really bringing something to the table and able to take something away from it."
"That takes time. We live in this microwave society where everything is supposed to be overnight. Social media makes it harder...makes it more difficult, because you're not able to grow at your own pace. You have to suffer your wins and your losses sometimes, well, all the time, in front of everybody."
He revealed he found a way to slow things down in his personal life, even while living in the public eye. This helped their relationship mature into what it is today.
"When things are under a magnifying glass, I just slow it down and make sure everything is real. I feel like just taking your time with anything can allow it to develop in the right way."
And even though the couple is a fan of shows like Love is Blind and 90 Day Fiancé, Tyler bashfully added that they both enjoyed getting to know each other on their time.
