“The Great American Baking Show”: Paul Hollywood Adjusts to 'American-Sized Portions' in Season 2 Trailer (Exclusive)

Casey Wilson and Zach Cherry return for a second installment of the Roku Channel hit on May 24

The Great American Baking Show is back for seconds!

Celebrity chefs Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are serving up another season of the hit Roku Channel series this May, bringing eight bakers from across the country to their famed England tent for a chance at taking the title of America’s Best Amateur Baker. 

PEOPLE has the exclusive debut of the trailer teasing a "bitter" competition to come with "sweet" success for the one lucky baker Hollywood and Leith crown the champion. And judging from the preview, the two baking experts — who audiences may know as judges on The Great British Baking Show (calledThe Great British Bake Off in the U.K.) — are learning new things for season 2.

"I just think it's gotten too big," Hollywood, 58, tells one baker, who reminds him quickly that "American-sized portions" are "a little bit different."

Like the British competition show it's based on, The Great American Baking Show will test the skills of bakers with a series of weekly tasks: a signature challenge, where bakers show off their tried-and-tested recipes; a blind technical challenge, where they're tasked with producing a bake with limited instructions; and a showstopper challenge, where bakers demonstrate their skills and talent.

"You want to see some real finesse so we're making it as difficult as we can," Leith, 84, says in the trailer.

The bakers appear up for the challenge. The season 2 cast includes: Christopher “Chris” Curcuro, 58 (Summerland, Calif.), Brad Gessner, 62 (Youngstown, Ohio), Mackenzie Rubish, 37 (Fallbrook Calif.), Ronald “RJ” Winter, 32 (Chico, Calif.), Nicole Aufderhar, 37 (Walker, Minn.), Ruoyun Zheng, 24 (San Francisco), Victoria Walters, 34 (Philadelphia) and Jennifer Reyes, 45 (New York City).

"The standard last year was so good, so I'm expecting the same this year," explains Hollywood. "America's such a large country that you can have such an eclectic mix of bakers."

Apparently among that mix is at least one baker, Aufderhar, who admits that "cake is not my thing."

"You do know where you are, don't you?" Hollywood tells her. "You're in The Great American Baking Show tent."

There's also another baker, Zheng, who is extra nervous around Hollywood. "You are shaking! Who's scaring you?" he asks Zheng, who quickly tells him, "You obviously!"

The Roku Channel became the new home for The Great American Baking Show back in 2022. Five seasons of the series had previously aired on ABC, the last being in 2019.

For the second Roku season, Zach Cherry will be back to host, this time joined by Happy Endings alum and Bitch Sesh star Casey Wilson, who replaces former co-host Ellie Kemper.

Wilson moves up to the main series after co-hosting the The Great American Baking Show: Celebrity Holiday with Cherry on Roku in 2023. And the comedian approaches the hosting duties with the same signature humor that's made her beloved by fans.

"10 minutes left," Cherry tells contestants at one point. "Or roughly 20 TikTok videos," Wilson clarifies.

Season 2 of The Great American Baking Show will be available on the Roku Channel on Friday, May 24. Viewers can access the network for free on Roku devices, the Web, iOS and Android devices, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung TV, and Google TV and other Android TV OS devices.
