On Grammys red carpet, why are stars wearing blue pins?
The Grammys red carpet is well underway, and amid the jaw-dropping looks and paparazzi flashes, a more symbolic trend is taking hold.
Several stars were seen sporting blue pins, signaling support for wildfire relief efforts after devastating blazes swept through the Los Angeles area earlier this month.
The awards ceremony, which chose to go ahead amid recovery efforts while several other earlier events were canceled, exists heavily in the shadow of a disaster that stopped Hollywood in its tracks. The evening is expected to kick off with a tribute to the fire victims and first responders.
Announcing the ceremony would go on as planned in the wake of the fires, the Recording Academy said in a release the awards would "carry a renewed sense of purpose: raising additional funds to support wildfire relief efforts and honoring the bravery and dedication of first responders who risk their lives to protect ours."

Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes was among the stars sporting the pin. The light blue heart adorned an otherwise all-black outfit.
The pin is in direct connection with MusiCares, a nonprofit that provides resources to people in the music business in times of need, Recording Academy and MusiCares CEO told USA TODAY. He himself wore the pin just above the pocket square on his velvet suit.
"It changed the mood. It changed what we've done (with the show), raising funds and awareness for the fire relief," he said.
The group's Grateful Dead tribute concert Friday, which always raises money for musicians in need, added those affected by the fires to that list this year.
Jacob Collier, an album of the year nominee for his project "Djesse Vol. 4," sported the pin as well, adorning an already dazzling and colorful suit with the pop of blue.
The Grammys are also following FireAid, a massive star-studded pair of benefit concerts at the Intuit Dome and Kia Forum in L.A. Thursday that raised funds for relief and recovery.
Performers ran the gamut from classic rock legends to pop princesses. The lineup included Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Rod Stewart, Sting and No Doubt.
Eilish also performed her hit "Birds of a Feather" Sunday, and fellow first ladies of pop Chappell Roan and Charli XCX and up-and-comers like Teddy Swims and Doechii are set to hit the stage.
