Glenn Close Made a Little Girl Cry After Doing Her Chilling Cruella Laugh
During an appearance on ‘The View,’ the 77-year-old actress talked through her storied career and most iconic roles
Glenn Close has had a prolific career — but younger generations know her best as Cruella de Vil.
During a Jan. 8 appearance on The View, the 77-year-old actress discussed some of her most iconic roles from her storied filmography, noting that she’s often recognized in public by kids as the 101 Dalmatians villain.
“It's so funny, kids now know me as Cruella,” said the Oscar nominee.
“I one time did a laugh when I saw a little kid,” added Close, mimicking Cruella’s evil cackle for the hosts at the table. “And then the little girl started crying.”
She didn't have to be afraid, though; the hosts quickly clarified that Close is an animal lover, and her pup Pip even joined them at the table.
And The Wife actress had plenty of (less tearful) memories to reflect on during her talk show appearance. She recounted, for instance, how she had the opportunity to meet the family of Vice President-elect J.D. Vance — years before his foray into politics — when she played his grandmother in an adaption of his bestselling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy.
“We all met members of the family. We all sat with them individually,” said the actress. “The family was very generous with their time.”

When The View hosts asked about how Vance has “changed” since he released his memoir in 2016, Close could only speculate. “I don’t know what happened,” she responded. “I think power — power is the most powerful aphrodisiac for a human being.”
Since taking her first role on the silver screen in the 1982 film The World According to Garp, Close has amassed dozens of accolades (including eight Oscar nominations) and cemented herself as one of the most celebrated actresses of her generation. But as she nears 80, she told the View hosts, “I’m feeling as excited about work as I’ve ever felt.”
“I don’t want to repeat myself because that’s boring, and so I’m trying to find things that stretch me in different ways,” she continued. “You just hope you get offered something that’s interesting.”
Currently, that’s Back in Action, an action-comedy in which she stars opposite Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz as an ex-spy. On The View, she revealed that she even did her own stunts for the film, which will be available to stream on Netflix on Jan. 17.
“It was fun,” Close coolly told the hosts. “I like doing stuff like that.”
She continued: “This movie has a lot of fights and guns, but no blood — which I kind of like.”
