The episode marks the returns of Young Sheldon cast members Zoe Perry (Mary) and Annie Potts (Meemaw), who first guest-starred in Episode 1; Raegan Revord (Missy), whose initial appearance comes in Episode 2 (airing Thursday, Oct. 24); and Craig T. Nelson (Dale), who makes his spinoff debut at Thanksgiving.
Photos below show Georgie with his teenage sister, as well as Mandy and CeeCee, who greet Meemaw and Dale at the McAllisters’ front door.
In Season 1’s fifth episode, aptly titled “Thanksgiving” and airing on Thursday, Nov. 14 (CBS, 8/7c), Mandy struggles to get Georgie’s family to join him for his first Thanksgiving since the loss of his father, George Sr. This, in turn, stirs up plenty of unresolved drama.
“It has been great to throw them all [into the mix] because there’s already just so much built-in tension in that world,” series co-creator Steve Holland previously told TVLine. “This is Georgie’s first Thanksgiving without his father, and that’s a big deal. To see his family also dealing with that, and Georgie trying to be the one to hold his family together, just seemed like a really rich story area.”
Series star Montana Jordan (aka Georgie) tees up the episode in Part 2 of our video Q&A above, adding: “Just like in real life, if you lost your father, it’s hard…. This [death] is just something that really came out of nowhere. They didn’t really expect it to happen and… they just have to figure everything out, one step at a time. And I think, maybe, I don’t know… I feel like maybe Georgie might be the only one taking it one step at a time.”
