General Hospital Recasts Lucas With ATWT Vet Van Hansis
Five-time Daytime Emmy-nominated As the World Turns alum Van Hansis is heading to Port Charles, N.Y., to take over the role of General Hospital‘s Lucas Jones beginning Friday, Oct. 4.
The son of the late Julian Jerome and (deep cut alert!) the late Cheryl Stansbury, and adopted by the late Dr. Tony Jones and the late Bobbie Spencer, Lucas has been played by a number of tots and young men since the character’s 1989 introduction — most recently, Days of Our Lives vet Drake Hogestyn’s stepson Ben, Matt Trudeau, and Ryan Carnes (who filled the role twice before and briefly reprised it this summer).

“[T]here are weird little similarities between [ATWT‘s] Luke Snyder and Lucas,” Van Hansis noted to TVInsider, which was first to report on his GH gig. “When I got the part, I was looking up who [Lucas] was and they both have the same dad stuff going on with their birth father being kind of a dirtbag, because Luke had Damian (played by Paolo Seganti) and Lucas has Julian (played by Jason Culp and then William DeVry) and then adopted fathers.”
Hansis also shared that he gave former ATWT castmate Maura West (GH‘s Ava Jerome) quite a start when he surprised her with his arrival on set: “I have always loved Maura so much.”
In addition to his years-long run as ATWT‘s Luke Snyder — which earned him three of his five Daytime Emmy nominations for acting — Hansis’ credits include the dark web comedy EastSiders (as Thom) and episodes of Psych, Nikita, The Deuce and FBI.
