Friends reveal real reason Zac Efron split with Byron Bay girlfriend

When it was revealed Zac Efron had split with his Australian girlfriend Vanessa Valladares, rumours began swirling it was because she had potentially been signed on to star in Byron Baes, however, it seems there's more to the story.

Apparently, Zac had been thinking about ending things for some time, because their relationship had become a burden on his intense filming schedule, Us Weekly reports.

"Zac is about to start a busy year of filming and wanted to make a clean break now," an insider told the publication.

The actor is about to fly to Canada for a two-month shoot on Stephen King's Firestarter and is reportedly feeling "relieved" to be single ahead of filming.

"Zac is secretly relieved about this turn of events as he feels she would be a distraction to him during the filming of the intense drama," the source added.

They also continued, saying Zac believed he was "getting in too deep and spending too much time" with Vanessa.

Another source told People that Zac ended things because "it just didn't feel right to him anymore" and is focused on his upcoming projects.

"He is happy, health and enjoying life," they said.

Zac is currently filming his show Down to Earth and met Vanessa last July when she was working at Byron Bay's General Store & Cafe.

Last week, it was reported that Zac ended things when he heard rumours Vanessa was set to star in Byron Baes, Netflix's newest controversial reality show.

"He's a very good person who wanted a genuine, normal, down-to-earth partner," a source told Daily Mail Australia.

"Zac sent her home from the set [Down to Earth with Zac Efron] last week. There still may have been a chance.

"I'm sure the final nail in the coffin was him seeing the story of her being possibly on Byron Baes and the claims that he was helping her get on it."

Byron Baes has attracted much controversy since its announcement with many Byron Bay residents slamming the show, which is set to follow influencers around the beachside town.

Kyle Sandilands confirmed the pair's split on the Kyle and Jackie O Show last week, but insisted Zac had told him there was "no drama" in the breakup and that the split was "recent", but not "yesterday recent".
