The first rumoured cast members of Netflix's Byron Baes revealed

Netflix's newest Aussie show Byron Baes has been causing quite the stir in Byron Bay, where it will be filmed, with locals slamming the streaming service, saying it would damage the beachside town.

The show, which will follow a group of influencers around, has reportedly found its first two stars, but they're not quite the influencers that you may have had in mind.

According to the Daily Telegraph, "born and bred" locals Kathy and Ralph Brauer are the first official cast members.

And while their business page enjoys a following of 83,000 people, Ralph's personal page, which is dedicated to his photography passion, has a much smaller following of just 1,500 people. The pair isn't quite the bikini-clad Instagram star that many people were assuming would appear on the show.

"People are assuming the show is going to be filled with vapid women, bikini influencers and the like, and that is simply not the case. It is actually local people who have their own businesses, showcasing the community, which is diverse and colourful," a source told the publication.

Kathy and Ralph founded their company in 2000 and their daughter Hannah is their co-creative director, however, it's unknown if she will make an appearance on the show.

Netflix has declined to comment on the show and its casting.

It comes after Ben Gordon, owner of the popular Byron Bay General Store urged local businesses not to allow the "tacky" show to film at their venues.

"ATT: Byron Bay Business Owners," he wrote on Facebook. "There is a good chance you have been, or soon will be contacted by the Byron Bae production crew looking for somewhere to film their tacky show. So far myself and several other local Cafe/Restaurant owners have been approached and have declined to let them shoot in our venues.

"They will try to convince you with words like 'huge exposure' and 'free marketing' but I believe it will do much more damage to your business than good. This is not the kind of exposure you want."

He continued, "If you care about the future of this town and don't want this show to go ahead, it's simple... Don't let them film in your venue. It will limit their content drastically and also will continue to send the message that Byron does not want to be portrayed to the world in this way."

Many Facebook users immediately took his side on the matter, saying they wouldn't allow the show to shoot inside their business either.

The show faced criticism following the first announcement with some saying they'd be willing to cancel their Netflix subscription over it.
