French Electro Musician Rone Bonds With a Whale in New Documentary From ‘Ailo’s Journey’ Producers; Pulsar to Launch Sales at EFM (EXCLUSIVE)

“The Musician and The Whale,” a cinematic documentary revolving around the encounter between renowned electro musician Rone and a whale, has been boarded by Paris-sales company Pulsar Content ahead of the EFM in Berlin.

Valentin Paoli’s feature debut, “The Musician and The Whale” hails from the producers of “Ailo’s Journey.” It follows Rone, who’s best known for scoring Jacques Audiard’s “Paris, 13th District” and (La)Horde’s “Room With a View,” as he embarks on a journey to meet a whale and create music for it. In the middle of the ocean, they engage in a unique conversation that will deeply change Rone’s life.

Shot between the Reunion Island, France’s Brittany and Paris, “The Musician and The Whale” came about after some sailors noticed that Rone’s music attracted cetaceans to come play close to their boats. While participating in the doc, Rone is working on a new album based on his experience which be included in the film’s soundtrack.

Pulsar Content will unveil a promoreel of the documentary feature at the EFM. “We were totally blown away by this incredible story when we first heard about it and are thrilled to bring Valentin’s feature to a wide international audience as well as festivals,” said the French sales company in a statement, also describing “The Musician and the Whale” as an “an enchanted encounter involving a world famous artist” and a “daring and unique approach in exposing these animals’ intelligence.”

“The Musician and The Whale” is produced by Valdés, whose credits include “Ailo’s Journey” and “Kina & Yuk,” two well-regarded documentary featuring animals. The company is connected to the French production company Borsalino Productions whose recent lineup includes “Spoiled Brats” and Studiocanal’s “Wake Up.”

“The promise of an extraordinary and unprecedented encounter between the whale and the musician makes the film an exceptional event,” said Valdés in a statement. “By telling this meeting through the lens of Rone’s intimacy, Valentin responds to the public’s desire for authenticity that is so in demand today.”

The producers said Paoli “offers a universal story through the wonder inspired by the spectacle of the whale, which will raise awareness about the preservation of our marine world.”

Jour 2 Fête will release “The Musician and The Whale” in theaters in France.

Pulsar Content’s EFM lineup will also include Chloé Robichaud’s Sundance competition sex comedy “Two Women;” Alice Douard’s “Love Letters” starring Ella Rumpf and Monia Chokri ; Damien Dorsaz’s biopic “Lady Nazca;” Leonardo DiCaprio and Jane Goodall exec-produced adventure “Howl;” French actress Joséphine Japy feature debut “The Wonderers” starring Mélanie Laurent, Pierre-Yves Cardinal and Angelina Woreth.
