Francisco San Martin, 'Days of Our Lives,' 'Jane the Virgin' star, dies at 39
Francisco San Martin, a soap opera star best known for his portrayal of Dario Hernandez on "Days of Our Lives," reportedly died Thursday. He was 39.
A coroner's report from the Los Angeles Medical Examiner and reviewed by USA TODAY appeared to correspond to the late star, which People and Deadline cited. The coroner's report cited suicide as the cause of death.
A rep for San Martin was not immediately available for comment.
San Martin kicked off his soap career in 2010 on "Days of Our Lives." Completing a six-month, near-60 episode tenure on the show, San Martin played Hernandez, a cold-case investigator. In 2017, San Martin show-hopped to "The Bold and The Beautiful" to play groundskeeper Mateo for a 16-episode stint.
Later that year, San Martin broke into primetime television with a role in "Jane the Virgin," a soap opera parody that often included self-referential telenovela storylines. In that vein, Martin's character Fabian starred in a show within the show opposite Gina Rodriguez (Jane) as an actor in her father's telenovela for Seasons 3 and 4 of the program.
Camila Banus, San Martin's co-star on "Days of Our Lives," paid tribute to the actor on Instagram, according to Forbes.
"Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend. My only witness that pau sang happy birthday to me in the middle of a concert in Hollywood, you couldn't believe it," Banus wrote. "Love you mucho mucho mucho; I wish I had told you more."
