Former Glinda, 39, Announces Cancer Diagnosis: ‘I Have No Hair but I Have My Spirit

Stage actress Kara Lindsay is "celebrating closing [a] massive chapter" after revealing her breast cancer diagnosis.

The former Glinda in the Broadway production of Wicked took to Instagram on World Cancer Day on Feb. 4, noting that it felt "like the appropriate day to share" she was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer during her time as Sutton Foster's standby in Once Upon a Mattress this past fall.

She was quick to assure fans and friends alike that she's "going to be ok," feeling "very lucky" to have caught the cancer "early" and quickly beginning eight rounds of chemotherapy, which she wrapped up just days earlier on Jan. 30.

"I’m celebrating closing this massive chapter in my healing journey!" she added enthusiastically. "I have no hair, but I still have my spirit and my joy. I’m trying to find as much light in this dark time as possible."

Alongside her message, she shared a photo of a poem her mother sent her, which "lives on [her] fridge," about all of the things cancer can't take away from her.

"Cancer certainly does not define me," she added, though "this battle is now part of the fabric of who I am."

Lindsay's fellow performers were quick to support her in response.

"I don’t know that you understand how much your spirit and soul uplift the people you come in contact with on a daily basis. You embody the kindness and beauty that we all aspire to have. And we are here for you through this ❤️," fellow former Glinda Patti Murin wrote.
