There are fears for Jay Leno’s health after he pulled out of an event on Sunday due to a “very serious medical emergency”.
The former Tonight Show host went straight to hospital after one of his vehicles in his private LA garage 'erupted into flames without warning', leaving him with burns on his face.
He was scheduled to make an appearance at the Financial Brand Forum 2022 in Las Vegas on November 13. In email to attendees obtained by People, Leno's absence was explained: “His family was not able to provide us very many details, but there was a very serious medical emergency that is preventing Jay from travelling.
“All we know is that he is alive, so our prayers go out to him and his family tonight.”
The popular TV presenter, 72, shared more information with the Daily Mail in a statement reading: “I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”
According to the publication, sources say the star suffered burns on the left side of his face.
He was immediately taken to the Grossman Burn Center and treated in the burn ward, with TMZ reporting that there was no damage to his eye or ear.
It is believed that Leno has cleared his schedule for the coming week so he can recover.
The star is known for his passion for vehicles, with over 180 cars in his personal collection. He currently hosts the show Jay Leno’s Garage, which originally was supposed to be a web series but became a staple on CNBC prime-time.
Each episode has a celebrity guest or public figure joining Leno, with stars such as Kelly Clarkson, Keanu Reeves, Patrick Dempsey and Martha Stewart previously making appearances.
Fans were quick to flood Leno’s social media with well wishes.
“My heart and prayers go out to you and wishing you a speedy recovery,” one fan wrote.
“Praying for you Mr. Leno! We’re all cheering for your recovery,” a second added.
“Jay you the man, you got this! Wishing you a fast recovery,” another chimed in.
