Farmer Wants a Wife viewers angry over detail in episode: 'Blatantly obvious'

Australia's most successful dating show is back but some fans are already upset with one aspect of it.

Farmer Wants a Wife has officially begun its latest season as five more farmers take a chance at finding their perfect match. The show has a fairly impressive track record - with thirteen seasons in 16 years resulting in nine marriages, seven relationships and 21 children - with the newest baby born in December 2023.

With such a high success rate - and a giant void to fill with season 11 of Married at First Sight now complete - it's unsurprising that fans were super excited for the new season of Farmer to premiere on Sunday night. However, some fans were a little dismayed by a particular choice made by one of the lads.

Taking to a social media page dedicated to the show, one viewer wrote, "So first Farmer left all the 'overweight' prospects behind no matter how well he got on with one of them. Did anyone else notice?"

The post generated over one hundred comments with several fans agreeing with the original poster.

"First thing I noticed," someone wrote.

Another added, "I said exactly the same thing to my husband, my 9 year old daughter actually noticed this and pointed it out."

"Blatantly obvious, " another wrote.

"I notice this every year!" someone else offered.

Wrote someone else, "EXACTLY my thoughts."

While there were certainly plenty of people who agreed with the post, others were quick to suggest that perhaps it wasn't as nefarious as it seemed.

"Wouldn't it be worse if the producers forced the farmers and lead other people on?," someone sagely said.

"It is his heart, stop!" another replied. "You only make those ladies feel bad because you are being insulting to them."

"If there’s no connection then no point picking them," another chimed in.

Another viewer pointed out that there wasn't exactly a ton of diversity in size among the farmers too writing, "Same thing could be said of the farmers chosen to do the show....they are all skinny as well....!"

One person went so far as to share a reminder writing, "A huge amount of the show is scripted, just like MAFS and all the others. Don't get sucked in by the drama..."

Where are the older farmers on FWAW?

Meanwhile, a different fan didn't have a problem with who the farmers had chosen, but the farmers themselves citing a major problem. "Not at all - the farmers clearly chose the ones they were attracted too [sic] & had things in comon [sic] with," they wrote. "I was more annoyed about how young they were - where are the older farmers ??"

The viewer's comment was reminiscent of the complaints many fans had when the promos for the new season of FWAW started airing, with many wondering why there weren't more mature farmers taking part.

Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle last week ahead of the show's premiere on Sunday night, Dustin shared his thoughts, revealing he simply believed there are fewer older farmers looking for love.

"Yeah, it's interesting to see the comments and like, 'Where's the old farmers?' It's like, well obviously they have wives, like otherwise they'd be on here," he quipped. "There's a lot more younger farmers [who] are probably single, so it sort of makes sense.

"And, I don't know, do you really want to see an older person kissing on camera? They're probably boring! I don't know, like in reality people like the drama, and you're probably not going to get that from an old farmer. And they probably won't put up with everything as well, think they're even more straight shooters than us, we're a bit more flexible."

He jokingly added, "Who wants to see old people kissing? No thanks!"
