'Needs to go': Fans turn on MasterChef favourite
MasterChef favourite Poh Ling Yeow continues to wow the judges on this year’s all-star season, but it seems she may be shedding a number of fans along the way.
The season one runner-up has returned to face off against other former contestants of the hit reality show, and though she started off as the season’s clear favourite it seems some fans have become fed up with her apparent preferential treatment, calling her overqualified and now visually underwhelming with her dessert offering.
The chef has consistently impressed the show’s new trio of judges so far, but it seems the positivity is wearing thin for fans at home.
Fans say show ‘too focussed’ on returning runner up
Many were quick to clarify it was the judges’ treatment and not the returning star, they had an issue with.
“Are the judges contractually obligated to heap high praises on Poh’s every dish?” one woman wondered. “She’s alright as a person, but it’s starting to get old, and it’s only been a few weeks!”
Others worried the show was becoming the ‘Poh show’ and that other contestants are unfairly missing out on screen time.
“Too much of the show focussed on her,” one fan wrote. “So many other more interesting contestants.”
Poh and Reynold ‘too good’ for competition
Poh wasn’t the only one to fall from fans’ favour, as fellow frontrunner Reynold also became a victim of his own success.
“MasterChef unpopular opinion,” another warned. “Poh needs to go. Other cooks need some limelight.”
“Just putting it out there Reynold should not have come back. He’s too good!” another wrote.
“[Reynold] and Poh are far too qualified for this year's MC,” another agreed. “Maybe I am being too critical...”
‘Basic’ dessert slammed
It seems, however, that some fans can’t make up their mind, with last night’s vanilla slice plated up by Poh also coming under fire, this time for being too ‘basic’.
“Sorry Poh, I adore you but it's just a vanilla slice,” one fan wrote.
“I hate to say it but Poh's vanilla slice looks a bit... basic,” another agreed.
With the show’s fanbase notoriously dedicated but demanding, frontrunners such as Poh and Reynold are almost bound to divide opinion, what really remains to be seen is who will win the judges over.
It wasn’t the only thing that got fans talking last night, as SA judge Jock Zonfrillo dropped an X-rated gag, leaving fans and contestants shocked and giggling.
Poh has long been a source of fascination for fans of the series. Last week they were flabbergasted when her true age was revealed, and even more shocked by a bizarre nickname she used to carry.
