MasterChef star's bizarre nickname revealed

Fans were left shocked earlier this week when they found out MasterChef star Poh Ling Yeow’s real age and now her bizarre nickname has been revealed.

According to chef Louis Tikaram, who is the head chef of Stanley restaurant in Brisbane, Poh was given the nickname ‘Train Tracks’ when she worked in Longrain restaurant.

Louis appeared on the Channel 10 show last night to give the group of Back To Win contestants a masterclass, where he held up a bunch of spring onions and asked Poh if she wanted to share the joke.

A red-faced Poh went on to explain to the group that she got the random nickname after the other chefs at Longrain noticed that the way she chopped spring onions left the actual scallion still attached to the body, leaving it looking like a train track.

Speaking to 10 Daily, Louis said the pair were working together at a food festival when the nickname was coined.

"And this is when we kind of looked at her work after she had finished and we held up these train tracks [laughs] that was a whole other story again," he said.

Poh has been hitting headlines this week, with her age become a hot topic on Twitter.

One fan took to Twitter and wrote, "Poh is 47 years old... Who looks like that at 47?"

Someone else wrote, "Poh doesn't age. What's her secret?" Another added, "Geez Poh looks [good] for 47."

Since finishing as the MasterChef runner-up in 2009 against Julie Goodwin, Poh has gone on to forge a successful cooking and media career.

She’s fronted her own ABC cooking show, Poh's Kitchen, as well as SBS series Poh & Co.
