Angelina Jolie Shares Moment She Watched Her Daughter Take in “Wicked”'s 'Defying Gravity' for the First Time: 'She Needs This'
The 'Maria' actress opened up about the pivotal moment in 'Variety''s Actors on Actors
Angelina Jolie's daughter had a pivotal moment in her life as she watched Wicked's "Defying Gravity" scene for the first time.
In Thursday, Dec. 12's episode of Variety's Actors on Actors series, Jolie spoke with Cynthia Erivo and shared about the time she watched one of her daughters take in Wicked's Act 1-ending number for the very first time on Broadway.
“I remember my daughter when she watched 'Defying Gravity.' And I remember that moment, because as a mom, sometimes we watch things and we want art to have an influence," Jolie shared.

"And I remember that moment and I remember catching her. And I felt that feeling of, ‘Oh, she needs this. She sees this. She’s feeling this desire to know that there’s endless possibility and something within her that she hasn’t discovered yet,'" she went on.
"And this was how I was feeling about it in that moment. I loved seeing it live, I loved when it came at the end of this film. Live theater is wonderful – seeing what you’ve added to this because now you’re able to do what you’re able to do on screen is so exciting," Jolie said to Erivo, who plays Elphaba in the film.
Jolie is mom to six kids — Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16 — with ex Brad Pitt.
Speaking to FOX 5 DC about Maria in a clip shared on Instagram, Jolie was asked if she ever watches any of her old films. The actress responded that while she doesn't love to watch them herself, her kids have started seeing some of her older films.
“I have started to, I haven’t watched them but some of my children will tell me they watched something [from] when I was younger and that will remind me of a time or I’ll understand how…because they know me now," Jolie shared.
"Kind of what that was and who I was then. There’s something interesting about that."
