Ex-Sunrise host Sam Armytage's surprise at-home haircut

Former Sunrise host Samantha Armytage has revealed a surprise new talent since quitting the breakfast program back in March: she can cut her own hair!

The 44-year-old took to her Instagram Stories on Wednesday to share a snap of her freshly-snipped tresses, holding up a lock of blonde strands to the camera.

Sam appeared chuffed with her DIY hairdressing skills, even if the end result wasn't completely perfect by her own admission.

"I'm taking selfies on the couch and admiring my new haircut that I DID MYSELF this morning," she wrote.

"It's quite even... Sort of," she joked.

Meanwhile, Sam shared a candid pic of the back of her husband Richard Lavender's head as he watched the Wallabies take on France in the first Test on TV.

"He's allowed to watch the Wallabies... as long as he PROMISES NOT TO YELL AT THE TV," she wrote.

Although she didn't explain why she took up the scissors herself, it may be due to Greater Sydney's ongoing lockdown that has forced many businesses including hairdressing salons to remain closed until July 16.

Sam no doubt picked up some styling tips and tricks after spending time in the hair and makeup chair five mornings a week during her eight-year stint on Sunrise.

If the rumours are true, Sam is set to return to the small screen as a contestant on Channel 7's upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars.

According to New Idea, a production source said: "They still see Sam as a big star and [Seven] think there's real potential in her entering prime time."

The insider also said that the addition of Sam to the program — which featured the likes of Home and Away star Ada Nicodemou, Luke Jacobz, Manu Feildel and Schapelle Corby last season — would be "ratings gold".

Earlier, Sam told shock jock Kyle Sandilands on her new podcast Something To Talk About that she was 'just having a break' from her career in the spotlight.
