Euphoria star slammed over claims she doesn't earn enough

Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney has revealed she can't afford to live her lifestyle in LA on her pay cheques from her acting jobs alone.

The 24-year-old, who is nominated for two Emmys for her work on Euphoria and The White Lotus, told The Hollywood Reporter that she couldn't afford to take a break from work even if she wanted to, because she doesn't earn enough from her acting projects.

"If I wanted to take a six-month break, I don’t have income to cover that," she said. "I don’t have someone supporting me, I don’t have anyone I can turn to, to pay my bills or call for help."

"They don’t pay actors like they used to, and with streamers, you no longer get residuals," Sydney continued. "The established stars still get paid, but I have to give 5 per cent to my lawyer, 10 percent to my agents, 3 per cent or something like that to my business manager. I have to pay my publicist every month, and that’s more than my mortgage."

She also explained to the publication that to stay relevant as a young actress, particularly one who is reliant on social media, there's a lot of press to do, and that comes with a lot of costs for things like styling, tailoring, hair and makeup, travel, which isn't always covered by a network.

It's for this reason that Sydney takes on gigs as ambassadors for brands such as Miu Miu and Armani.

"If I just acted, I wouldn’t be able to afford my life in L.A. I take deals because I have to."

Sydney was able to buy a house after working steadily for five years, however, she soon learned that her address leaked on real estate blogs and constantly has people outside trying to get photos.

When THR asked why she hadn't bought in a gated community like celebrities often do, she explained she couldn't afford to do so.

Fans have since slammed the star for her admission, with one user taking to Twitter to write, "Hey @Sydney_Sweeney, have you ever tried just not being poor?"

"Life. Is. Haaaard," another wrote. "Hang in there. I can't imagine how you'd be doing a 9-5. $4M net worth and you can't take half the year off??? Almost like you're not even human 😢."

"I had no idea I had so much in common with Sydney Sweeney. I also can’t afford to take 6 months off of work," a third joked.

"I love Sydney Sweeney but where is the publicist she laments paying because they should have told her to steer clear of this conversation," a fourth said. "You can actually live in LA on her salary, you just need less house."

Others defended the star, with one user writing, "Sydney Sweeney is allowed to discuss the struggles of acting in this new age without ppl down her throat about her mansion... she's not a [nepotism] baby and she's worked for her success."

"The Sydney Sweeney 'I can’t take a six month break' is actually quite refreshing," another wrote. "Just means she’s a real working actress. I wish that was me hahaha."
