Yahoo Lifestyle Ethan Slater Shared The Sweetest Picture Of Ariana Grande In Honor Of Her First Oscar Nomination, And You Need To See It
Ariana Grande is officially an Oscar nominee!!!!!!! And there’s perhaps no one more proud of her than her boyfriend and Wicked costar, Ethan Slater.
In the unlikely event that you missed it, Ari received a first-time Oscar nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category for her showstopping performance as Glinda in Jon M. Chu’s Wicked adaptation, which came out in November.
During yesterday’s nominations broadcast — hosted by Bowen Yang (who also happens to be in Wicked) and Rachel Sennott — Ari’s name was called alongside Monica Barbaro for A Complete Unknown, Felicity Jones for The Brutalist, Isabella Rossellini for Conclave, and Zoe Saldaña for Emilia Pérez.
As well as Ariana's nod, it was a successful day for the entire Wicked family, with the movie receiving 10 nominations in total.
Shortly after the nominations were revealed, Ariana marked the milestone with an emotional statement on her Instagram in which she thanked the Academy for such an “unfathomable recognition.”
“i cannot stop crying, to no one’s surprise. i’m humbled and deeply honored to be in such brilliant company and sharing this with tiny ari who sat and studied Judy Garland singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow just before the big, beautiful bubble entered,” she wrote, alongside a photograph of herself as a child.
As well as paying tribute to her director, Ari also showed love for her Wicked costar, Cynthia Erivo, who received a Best Actress nomination for her portrayal of Elphaba.
“i don’t quite have all my words yet, i’m still trying to breathe,” she continued. “but thank you. oh my goodness, thank you. Universal, Marc, my family, my heart.”
And as love-filled congratulations poured in across social media, one of the sweetest tributes came from Ariana’s boyfriend, Ethan, whom she met while making the movie.
For context, Ethan and Ari have been an incredibly private couple since their relationship was first reported in July 2023. However, he certainly made no secret of his pride after the Oscar nominations were announced.
Ethan — who played Boq in Wicked — first celebrated Ari’s nomination by reposting a still of Glinda in the movie to his Instagram Story, adding the caption: “Oscar. Nominated.” IKTR!!!

He followed up by posting a ton of celebratory stories, including a repost of Ariana’s Instagram statement, a screenshot of the Best Supporting Actress nominees line-up, and an adorable photograph of Cynthia and Ari together on set.
And Ethan’s tributes weren’t just limited to his Instagram Story. The Tony nominee also showed his love on the grid by posting a simple yet stunning photograph of Ari looking out a window, holding a bouquet of pink Glinda-esque balloons. Perfect.
