Erica Ash, star of Scary Movie and Real Husbands of Hollywood, dies aged 46: 'Such a light'

Scary Movie V star Erica Ash has died at the age of 46 following a cancer battle, her family confirms. The actress' mother, Diann Ash, told TMZ, "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, and friend Erica Chantal Ash (1977-2024). After a long and courageous battle with cancer, she transitioned peacefully surrounded by her loved ones."

She continued, "Erica was an amazing woman and talented entertainer who touched countless lives with her sharp wit, humour, and genuine zest for life. Her memory will live eternally in our hearts. In honour of Erica’ memory, the family asks that any donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation or the Breast Cancer Foundation of your choice. We are grateful for the kind expressions of love and support during this difficult time."

Comedian Loni Love was the first to share the news on social media, sharing a tribute to her friend and former co-host which read, "I am sad to confirm my friend and fellow actress Erica Ash’s passing…. Erica was talented and hilarious whether it was the show Survivor’s Remorse or MadTV she would put her all into her work. She would always just be there... now she’s gone... My sincere condolences to her family and fans."

Erica started acting while attending a performing arts school in Atlanta, Georgia and her first big break was on The Big Gay Sketch Show, which she starred on alongside Colman Domingo, Kate McKinnon and more.

She then joined MadTV in 2008 for its final season and was known for her celebrity impressions of Naomi Campbell, Whoopi Goldberg, and Michelle Obama.

Her most notable movie and TV credits included Scary Movie V, Real Husbands of Hollywood, In Contempt and more recently We Have A Ghost, which she starred in alongside Stranger Things' David Harbour and Marvel's new Captain America, Anthony Mackie.

Stars share tributes for Erica Ash

Ashley Tisdale, who worked with Erica on Scary Movie 5, took to Instagram to share a tribute that read, "I'm so sad to hear about the passing of [Erica Ash], we had so much fun filming Scary Movie and she was such a light! She was the absolute sweetest. Rest in peace sweet girl."

Comedian Mike Epps, who starred alongside Erica in Survivor's Remorse, also shared a tribute for his friend, which read, "RIP ERICA 🥲 gone too soon she was such a great person to work with full of life and funny and talent you left a great mark on earth."

"Erica Ash was a light. Beautiful, funny, beyond talented," Christopher Landon, who worked with the star on We Have A Ghost, wrote on X. "I was blessed to work with her and call her my friend. My heart goes out to her family and friends right now."

Actress Tisha Campbell Martin took to Instagram to share a tribute, which read, "God I will miss you. With all the ugliness that this world and sometimes our industry brings there are few among us that are the LIGHT and you are that for so many. You are talented, you are funny, you are brilliant and you are flying with much earned wings. My God Erica this is a rough one man!!!! I love you my little sister RIP."
