Emma Roberts's "Sunrise Red" Hair Color Transformation Is Giving 'Pretty Woman'
She's so Julia (Roberts).
Emma Roberts is drawing from her movie star relative Julia Roberts for beauty inspiration. While the Tell Me Lies director has favored different iterations of buttery blonde in recent years with a brunette detour every now and then, Roberts kicked off 2025 with a “new hair, new me” mentality. On February 3, the American Horror Story documented her transformation to the auburn side as she unveiled a “sunset red” hair makeover worthy of her aunt’s Pretty Woman era.
It was a big hair change for Roberts, who was sporting platinum blonde locks–one of her brightest hair colors yet–that went just a few inches past her collarbone. She took to Instagram to show off her new long cinnamon red waves, which reached all the way down past her chest and looked like a modern rendition of the Titian auburn hue that Julia Roberts wore in the '90s during her rom-com heyday.
"SUNRISE RED," she captioned the carousel, which showed off her newly-dyed and lengthened locks, courtesy of Wella hair color and Great Lengths hair extensions. "Only done by the best @nikkilee901 @riawna @ninezeroone."
To demonstrate just how major of a hair transformation it was, Roberts also shared a “before and after” Reel at the salon set to Lana Del Rey’s “Season of the Witch.”
While the Scream Queens alum didn’t reveal what prompted the copper-hued dye job, Nikki Lee revealed that the new hue was inspired by Roberts’ famous aunt and was for an upcoming role. “We love this look on Emma—it’s giving a very modern take on Julia Roberts's hair in the '90s,” she shared in a statement to People. “I created this shade for Emma as she needed to go red for an upcoming role.”
In addition to creating new “wispy layers” throughout, the hairstylist team complemented Roberts’s complexion with the new hue. “This multi-reflective tone is perfect on Emma in so many ways. It makes her eyes pop and is stunning on her skin tone,” she added.
It’s actually not the first time that Roberts has gone red, as the actress last debuted a similar auburn hue back in 2017. The star has yet to confirm what project she went "sunrise red" for, but based on the Lana Del Rey track, it looks like fans could be in for a new spooky appearance from the horror queen.
