“She Doesn't Have A Huge Entourage”: Emma Roberts Said She Was Inspired By How “Normal” Kim Kardashian Was On The Set Of “American Horror Story”
Kim Kardashian’s acting era is upon us, and it sounds like she has a fan in Emma Roberts.
In the 12th season of American Horror Story, titled Delicate, Emma plays an actor named Anna. Opposite her, Kim stars as her publicist, Siobhan.
AHS creator Ryan Murphy previously said that the part of Siobhan was made specifically for Kim. And in a new appearance on the Table For Two podcast, Emma praised Ryan’s “genius” decision to cast the reality TV icon as a celebrity publicist on the show.
“He called me one day, and he’s like, ‘Kim Kardashian, playing your publicist,’...and I was like, This is why you’re you, that is genius,” Emma recalled of her conversation with Ryan, whom she’s worked with for over a decade since her first appearance in AHS: Coven back in 2013.
“Putting her in the role of a publicist and me being an actor, already that’s such a great dynamic to play with,” Emma continued.
Because Kim isn’t widely known for her acting skills, there was some apprehension around the news of her casting. However, when Part 1 of Delicate aired in September last year, Kim quickly proved her doubters wrong by being hailed as “one of the best parts” about the FX show.
Emma said Kim’s success in the role was no surprise, calling the Skims founder “one of the most prepared actors [she’s] worked with.”
“I mean, I’ve come to work sometimes and people — that I won’t name, but you know who they are — they don’t know their lines at all, which, whatever, it’s fine, we all have those days. But she knew every single line,” she said on the podcast.
“She also will just look you in the eye and do it,” she continued. “To be that open and vulnerable — and I still get embarrassed sometimes and I’ve been acting for 20 years — she’s super professional, confident.”
Emma also said that Kim was surprisingly low-key on set despite being one of the most famous people on the planet.
“And just the way that she carries herself, she doesn’t have a huge entourage, she’s very normal,” she said. “And that was also really inspiring to see.”
Notably, working with Kim was somewhat of a full-circle moment for Emma, who recalled shopping in the Kardashians’ now-defunct clothing store, DASH.
“I used to buy jeans from them at DASH in Calabasas,” she said, remembering that she was about 12 or 13 at the time. “This is right before they did their show and I had a show on Nickelodeon…and [I] thought it was so cool that I could afford to buy Seven7 jeans at DASH from working.”
She added: “At the end of the day, we’re just two girls from Calabasas.”
