Emma Chamberlain Describes Her Sheer 2024 Met Gala Look as 'Decaying' — and It Took 640 Hours to Make!
The online star made a striking statement at the 2024 Met Gala in a custom Jean Paul Gaultier look
Emma Chamberlain returned to the 2024 Met Gala on May 6 for her fourth year in a row.
Chamberlain, 22, made a dramatic statement in a custom brown lace Jean Paul Gaultier dress featuring a strapless corseted bodice, ivy-like lace tendrils wrapped around her arms and a tulle train. She told reporters on the red carpet that her goth look could be described in one word as "decaying."
“This is sort of a fantasy, enchanted-like theme. It’s fun to do a dark twist on it; the underbelly of nature,” Chamberlain said in her Sketch to Dress video for Vogue, nodding to the event's theme of "The Garden of Time." The dress — which took inspiration in part from a corset look that the French fashion house sent down the runway in 2003 — took a staggering 640 hours to create, according to the outlet.
Jean Paul Gaultier spokesperson Maria Eugenia Perez Pinaud told Vogue that the silhouette of Chamberlain's look is “modernized by adding volume; there are layers, combinations of several textiles, and transparencies with satin whalebones, a blocked knit base, and lace on top.”
Chamberlain accessorized with a diamond statement necklace and earrings. Her hair was styled in a sleek updo, and she had dark glam to match her edgy look.
The online superstar and entrepreneur first appeared at the Met Gala in 2021 as a special correspondent and red-carpet host for Vogue. Chamberlain dazzled in an all-gold Louis Vuitton mini dress, strappy gold shoes, and gold accessories for her first-ever appearance on the benefit’s red carpet.

The host of the “Anything Goes” podcast returned to the event the next year, wearing another Louis Vuitton look. The custom two-piece skirt set was reminiscent of the event’s dress code, ‘Gilded Glamour,’ featuring a historical-looking, buttery yellow cropped top and a sleek, albeit less antique-looking white skirt.
Chamberlain's 2022 Met Gala look featured Louis Vuitton with glittering pieces from another French brand, Cartier, adorning her ensemble. Her tiara, a vintage piece from the 1900s, and her other jewelry, including bracelets and earrings, were all sourced from the French jeweler.
The Chamberlain Coffee mogul also made headlines at the Gala that year after an interview with rapper Jack Harlow, 26, went viral for its flirty vibes. In the video, Chamberlain, a special correspondent for Vogue on the red carpet, talks with Harlow, who is suave and cool with his responses to Chamberlain’s interview questions.
In 2023, Harlow and Chamberlain reunited again on the Met’s carpet in an even more playfully flirty interaction that left fans of the two dissecting the interaction in the YouTube video comments.
“Let’s make this an annual thing pleaseee,” one user wrote.
“They’re so iconic i can’t,” another chimed in.
The Internet sensation broke from her Louis Vuitton trend, wearing two separate cropped two-piece Miu Miu suit skirt sets — one for walking the carpet and another for completing her interviewing duties.
Chamberlain was also spotted at this year's Met Gala hanging out with pal-turned-partner Kendall Jenner. The two recently launched an espresso martini collab between their respective brands, Chamberlain Coffee and Jenner's 818 Tequila.
