Emily Blunt’s Daughters Thought She Was 'the Meanest Person' for Her “Devil Wears Prada” Role
The actress shares daughters Hazel, 10, and Violet, 7, with husband John Krasinski
Emily Blunt’s Devil Wears Prada role may be iconic — but to her kids, it was also a bit scary!
The actress, 41, recently told Page Six that her daughters — Hazel, 10, and Violet, 7, whom she shares with husband John Krasinski — found her turn as Emily Charlton in the 2006 film less than savory.
“They thought I was the meanest person they’ve ever met,” Blunt said of their reaction to Charlton, a high-strung assistant at fictional fashion magazine Runway.
But others appreciated the character far more, as she told the outlet that her lines from the film are still “quoted to me every week.”
“It’s incredible that it has such an indelible fingerprint on people,” she said.
The film's lasting imprint is especially “incredible” because, as Blunt pointed out to Page Six, it was her “first big movie.”
"I remember my agent calling me and telling me about the opening weekend,” she recalled of its box-office success. “I was like, ‘Is that good?’ Like, I didn’t know what was good.”
The actress also added that the Devil Wears Prada cast — Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci and more — had “the time of our lives” working on the beloved drama-comedy.

Blunt and Krasinski, 44, are very private about their relationship and family life, but they have shared a few rare tidbits about Hazel and Violet — and what they think of their movie star parents.
While chatting with PEOPLE earlier this year, Blunt revealed that despite its family-friendly nature, her 2021 film Jungle Cruise was a distressing watch for her little ones.
“They've only seen Jungle Cruise once,” the Oppenheimer actress said. “They didn't like the underwater stuff where I'm trapped and I'm in peril.”
Upon seeing their mom in danger, the actress recalled, both Hazel and Violet “started crying” and “left the room.”
In general, she explained, “They don't love watching me on-screen, which I understand because I'm their mommy and it's very strange to see me play someone else.”
Unfortunately for her daughters, however, Blunt may be returning to the on-screen world of Runway in the near future, as The Devil Wears Prada is getting a sequel.
While chatting with PEOPLE recently, the star kept her lips sealed about the upcoming film — “Oh my God, I can’t tell you anything” — but did say she’s ready for some fun looks.
“I just wanna get some good eye makeup going again,” Blunt said, before joking that she may even get another stomach flu: “I’m hoping for that.”
