Dyson hack to extend battery life on stick vacs divides: 'Game changer'
Tired of your stick vacuum running out mid-vac? Problem solved.
Who doesn't fantasise about endless vacuuming sessions? Well, dreams do come true. One man has shared his pro-tip for Dyson Stick Vac owners, revealing a hack that extends cordless vacuum battery life for hours—even days—on end.
Sounds like a blast.
Taking to a popular cleaning and organising Facebook group, the man shared a photo of the motor and dust catcher assembly of his Dyson Stick Vac unit seamlessly connected to an 18 volt battery pack.
"Get yourself a Makita battery adapter, throw on your battery and then vacuum for days and days!" he explained, before revealing that his Dyson Stick Vac used to work for only 15 to 20 minutes before running out.
However, armed with the Makita battery, he proudly proclaimed, "I've vac'd the whole house every day for the last 6 days with the same Makita battery, still going strong."
The post generated a flood of responses from intrigued group members eager to learn more about how they could implement this clever trick in their own homes.
"Wait!!!! What????!" One person exclaimed, while another enthusiastically chimed in, "Wow, great idea!"
"Game changer! We have done this too," replied a third.

With many group members curious about how to implement the hack themselves, other users provided feedback and guidance on executing the modification.
"We do this, the extra power and dirt pick up is insane," one person responded, before others chimed in with advice on how the system changeover to incorporate the Makita battery can be done.
Explaining the process, one person revealed that an adapter, either Ryobi or Makita, is necessary to connect the rechargeable battery to your Dyson.
Recommended Makita battery converters, which facilitate this compatibility, can be found on platforms like eBay.
Group members had furthers questions regarding compatibility, specifically whether the Makita battery would fit all models of Dyson Stick Vacs.
To clarify, a helpful member advised the hack is applicable only to version 6 - version 8 Dysons, as the later models use different powered motors.
Nevertheless, cautionary advice echoed throughout the discussion. Several members warned that using non-Dyson batteries might void the warranty.
One member shared their firsthand experience, stating: "Changing the whole battery system would void the warranty. I've done this to mine, but it's an older model."
Others mentioned instances of more powerful batteries blowing out the vacuum motor eventually, pointing out the importance of understanding the potential risks associated with the hack.
"Pretty sure Dyson batteries are around 6-9 volts so putting in an 18 volt would certainly burn the motor out a lot faster. Sometimes things are best left as they are."
Amidst the dialogue, one member offered an alternate solution.
"You know you can get the battery replaced at Dyson stores for like $50...and they last for ages."
