Duchess Meghan mourns death of rescue dog Guy: 'I have cried too many tears to count'
Duchess Meghan is mourning the loss of her royal pooch.
In an emotional post on Instagram Tuesday, the British royal revealed the death of her beloved rescue dog, Guy the beagle.
"In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada. He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live. I swooped him up….and fell in love," Meghan wrote alongside a video compilation of herself and Guy.
The Duchess of Sussex named her canine pal Guy because he had earned the moniker, "the little guy", due to his "small and frail" frame at the time of his rescue. She added: "He was the best guy any girl could have asked for."
Duchess Meghan: British royal to star in Netflix's 'With Love, Meghan'
"He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom….he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort," Meghan wrote.
She continued: "I have cried too many tears to count — the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they're not there. But they are. And that's okay too."
Guy got the star treatment in 2018 as the face of the picture book "His Royal Dogness, Guy the Beagle," authored by Camille March and Michael Brumm and illustrated by EG Keller.
Duchess Meghan, who recently announced the launch of her Netflix lifestyle show "With Love, Meghan," teased that Guy will be featured in the series. "I hope you'll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too," she wrote.
Surprise! Duchess Meghan rejoins Instagram with video shot by Prince Harry
Guy isn't the only dog who's stolen Duchess Meghan's heart over the years. In August 2022, Meghan and husband Prince Harry adopted Mia, a beagle who'd been "tortured and abused" at a breeding facility in Virginia.
"Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy," Meghan concluded. "You filled my life in ways you’ll never know ❤️🩹"
