Who Is Don Cheadle's Wife? All About Bridgid Coulter
The actor and Coulter have been together for nearly 30 years
Don Cheadle and Bridgid Coulter have been the perfect duo for almost three decades.
The Hotel Rwanda actor and his longtime partner Coulter met in the 1990s but waited until they had been dating for 28 years to take their relationship to the next level.
Although they didn’t get married until early 2020, wedding bells have been on the mind for quite some time. In a 2021 interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Space Jam: A New Legacy star joked that it was tax purposes that finally made the couple take the leap into married life.
"Our accountant proposed to both of us and he showed us the numbers, and we said, 'Yeah, we should probably do it,' " Cheadle told the outlet. "It came up a lot. But every time, we were like, 'But we're already together?' [The accountant said], 'Yeah, but this is a better reason to be together.' Really, it's because our accountant proposed to us. I wish there were some big sweet romantic story, but the romance happened, you know, the first year."
As for advice on married life, the actor said: "Wait 28 years before you get married. Do not rush into things. Be very careful!"
Coulter jokingly added, "You've got to make sure. I wasn't sure. Now I think I'm almost sure."
But who is the lady who has stolen Cheadle’s heart for the best part of 30 years? Here’s everything to know about Don Cheadle’s wife, Bridgid Coulter.
She’s a former actress
Coulter previously worked as an actress and has had leading roles in many movies and television shows including Rosewood, Martin, Family Matters and Always Outnumbered.
However, she decided she wanted to make a career change and pivoted to entrepreneurship — Coulter is the owner of many successful businesses.
Her wedding to Cheadle was very intimate
Cheadle revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in June 2021 that he and Coulter had married amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. A pandemic wedding meant that the pair had a very private, intimate ceremony at home — something that Cheadle said made the wedding extra special.
"It was just beautiful," he recalled of the nuptials. "It was just for us in our backyard, our two kids. It was for us. It was special."
Guest host Wanda Sykes said that she owed Cheadle an apology after she assumed that he and Coulter were already married.
"You texted me at the top of the year, I guess, and you told me that you just got married," Sykes said. "And I was like, 'Oh damn, the pandemic got to Don and Bridgid.' "
"I was like, 'What the hell happened, man?' " she continued to joke. "I think I just texted something back, like, 'Hey, if you're happy, I'm happy for you.' ... I was like, 'Cheadle went Hollywood.' "
Sykes explained that she thought the pair were married before their 2020 wedding, and Cheadle understood why.
"Yeah, I mean, that's understandable given that we've been together 28 years before we got married," Cheadle replied. "I hold you blameless."
She shares two children with Cheadle
Coulter and Cheadle are the proud parents of two grown-up children: Tai and Imani.
Tai works in the camera crew on various TV shows and movies, and Imani is a development associate at Cheadle's production company, This Radicle Act. In a December 2022 PEOPLE interview, the actor discussed his bond with his adult kids.
"I'm very fortunate to be close with my 'adult-ren' — I don't even call them kids anymore," he said at the time. "They're very grounded and un-Hollywood, and I'm glad about that.
She’s the founder of a wellness workspace
The mom of two is the founder of Blackbird, a wellness and work collective for women of color and allies. Located in Culver City, Calif., the 12,000-square-foot space hosted a reception for Kamala Harris in 2019 and is home to many creatives.
“It was really all about this grounding, sophisticated, but still feminine [aesthetic where] a man can work there and not feel ‘girly,’ but a woman can work there and feel powerful and embraced,” Coulter told The Hollywood Reporter of Blackbird in 2019. “I wanted it to feel warm [and symbolize] this concept of home, this place you can come and you feel get work done, or you can get a meditation in, and you can get some community and some kombucha.”
For those looking to delve into the world of entrepreneurship, Coulter offered up some business tips during a July 2023 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
“When you’re an entrepreneur, you are doing everything — you’re tech, you’re marketing, you’re sales, programming,” she said. “Stopping and reflecting in the moments of all you’ve done, giving yourself your flowers, is also important.”
She’s an interior designer
Coulter returned to school at UCLA and earned a master’s-level certificate in interior design.
“I’ve always been conscious of space and how it makes me feel, whether it is inspired or hugged or warm,” she told USA Today in April 2022. “For me, space is an experience, and we spend so much time in interior space that I think being mindful of the space [we’re in] is important.”
She has designed a wide range of spaces, as showcased on her website. Designs include homes and offices in Southern California, along with showrooms.
