Delta Goodrem's candid confession about her fiancé after engagement

From touring Europe and Australia to starring in the popular Netflix movie Love Is in the Air, 2023 has been quite the year for Delta Goodrem.

Not only did the pop superstar experience a number of professional successes this year, but she also announced in September that she and her long-time boyfriend Matthew Copley, who works as her guitarist, are engaged.

Chatting with Yahoo Lifestyle ahead of her festive special Christmas with Delta on Channel Nine this Sunday night, Delta opened up about her engagement and their plans for the holiday season.

“My fiancé was working very hard on the Christmas special, you will see him there as well,” she shares. “We just really love being creative on these shows and working as a team.

“We’ve created ATLED productions which has been able to sort of collaborate and make these projects and it's just been a really exciting time. It was a big year between the European tour and the Innocent Eyes tour which was beautiful and a very special full circle moment, and now we're just ready to rock and roll in the year ahead.”

While some people might struggle to work alongside their partner in a professional environment, Delta says it’s a blessing that she and Matthew get to collaborate so frequently.

“I'm so lucky that we have been working together for a long time and been able to make music, and obviously the band is such an amazing band and everybody is such a team,” she details.

“We're all such a big family and everybody is just enjoying the process. When we’re all having our rehearsals, we want to create an environment where we can all enjoy and feel inspired together.”

'A dream of mine'

2023 also marks the fourth year in a row that Christmas with Delta has aired on Channel Nine, which she describes as an opportunity to express her love of Christmas, connect with people and give gifts to deserving families.

“That was always a dream of mine from the time I was a kid,” she remarks.

“I always had this real aspiration to be able to take that part of me that loves that time of year and people coming together and connecting and singing the same songs and carols and it's really brought to life through the show. It’s really great.”

The TV special, which coincides with the Community of Kindness Christmas Campaign organised through Delta's foundation, features a star-studded line-up of local and international musicians filmed at the Sydney Coliseum Theatre.

“What I love about the show is that anybody can watch at any age and there's something for everybody,” she says. “It's really important to me that the show has all the different types of artists that they might listen to in different moments of their life.

“Teddy Swims is on this year and his voice is so amazing and he's got a particular tone that people will love. And then you have Jon Stevens and Kate Ceberano, and G Flip’s amazing, Budjerah of course and Robbie Williams and Rai Thistlethwayte. It’s a great way to reconnect with everyone.”

Christmas with Delta airs Sunday December 17 at 7pm on Channel Nine and 9Now.
