Decoding Wendy’s ‘Krabby Patty Sauce’ on the New “SpongeBob” Burger Even Though the Recipe Is 'Top Secret'

The fast food chain partnered with Paramount to create two limited-edition menu items, the Krabby Patty Kollab Burger and the Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty

Wendy’s Krabby Patty sauce is just as hush hush as Mr. Krabs’ secret formula.

In honor of 25 years of SpongeBob SquarePants, the fast food chain partnered with Paramount to create limited-edition menu items inspired by the beloved cartoon. Now that fans have gotten a taste of the Krabby Patty Kollab Burger, they have thoughts on what Wendy’s dubs the “top-secret” Kollab sauce.

"Our top-secret Krabby Kollab sauce is a closely guarded recipe that makes the first bite of the Krabby Patty Kollab Burger worth the wait for 'SpongeBob SquarePants' fans and Wendy's customers alike," a Wendy's spokesperson told USA TODAY.

We channeled our inner Plankton and went sleuthing for the ingredients of the sauce on Wendy's official website. This was ultimately a dead end — even though all of the other burger components have full ingredient lists, the sauce's only reads: "Secret Krabby Patty Sauce: CONTAINS: EGG."

TikTok creator Stefan Johnson went viral on TikTok for sharing his review of the full menu — including the sauce.

“Now this goofy-ass-looking burger,” he joked at the start of the video. “The only thing different apparently is that there’s a top-secret sauce – SpongeBob’s secret blend.”

Johnson decided the sauce is "like a tangier Big Mac sauce with like a little more pepper,” he said.

Another TikToker, who goes by Impossible Runs, gave his review of the sauce in a video that has garnered almost 250k likes.

“First time trying Wendy’s Krabby Patty meal,” he opened the video. “This is tasting as good as the real thing.”

Next up, were his thoughts on the show-inspired condiment. “I like the secret sauce. It isn’t spicy, but it does have a different taste. The secret sauce all over it gives it a good taste.”

Ultimately, he rated it an 8.5 out of 10.

Staffers at Delish also taste-tested the special burger and had hot takes on the sauce.

“As a self-proclaimed burger connoisseur, I can say it’s not far off from other fast food secret sauces,” wrote associate editor Gabby Romero. “It’s less sweet than the ones from In-N-Out or Shake Shack. By contrast, the Krabby Patty Kollab sauce leans more peppery and savory — a flavor profile that I honestly prefer for a burger.”

The color of the sauce is similar to thousand island dressing — which shares a flavor profile with McDonald's Big Mac sauce. The Krabby Kollab sauce likely shares many of the same ingredients — like mayonnaise, mustard, pickle relish, vinegar and seasonings — just without as much added sugar.

The Krabby Patty Kollab Burger sandwiches a beef patty, two slices of American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion and the Krabby Kollab sauce between a toasted bun.

Along with the savory main, the menu includes the Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty. This sweet choice combines Wendy’s popular vanilla Frosty with a swirl of pineapple-mango puree.

The themed treats are available now in stores and on Wendy’s app for a limited time.
