With Criminal Minds: Evolution premiering season 2 on June 6 on Paramount+, it's no surprise to hear fans are ready to get reacquainted with the members of the BAU. But after the next installment, what's going to happen to the show? Well, if Joe Mantegna's latest video is a clue, we'll be hanging out with the FBI for a little while longer.
As the hit procedural drama wrapped filming season 2 (season 17 in the overall Criminal Minds franchise) on May 10, the actor went on Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes look at the last moments on set. In a short clip posted on the platform, folks watched him address the cast and crew to thank them for all the effort they put into creating the upcoming episodes. But amid his impassioned speech, he seemingly implied there may be more stories in the works for Criminal Minds: Evolution.
"As the oldest person in the building," he jokingly began, "I just wanted you to know this is the finest group of people that anybody can ever want to work with. I look forward to the next season. God bless you all."
When fans caught wind of Joe's thank you speech for the entire cast and crew, one particular element of the declaration stood out. They all noticed him mention the words "next season," making folks beg for clues on if Criminal Minds: Evolution will be back for season 3.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN NEXT SEASON??? SEASON 18!?!?" one person screamed in the comments. "THE NEXT SEASON 😍😍😍 s18????" another inquired. "Does the cast know something we don't s18 maybe 👀," a different follower added.
The official Criminal Minds Instagram account commented, "It should never end 😢," sparking even more speculation.
While we still have a ways to go before finding out if Criminal Minds: Evolution will be back for season 3, we do know season 2 is sure to bring a lot of drama for the BAU. A season 2 teaser trailer was released on May 10, previewing what's to come.
