Craig Melvin is embarking on a new era of his TV career.

For some time, Today show viewers have known Craig as part of an iconic cast of NBC news anchors. He currently co-hosts the third hour of Today alongside Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones and Dylan Dreyer.

In November 2024, it was revealed he would be stepping in for Hoda Kotb, taking her place as Today co-anchor during the 7 a.m. time slot alongside Savannah Guthrie. Hoda's final episode before leaving Today is January 10, 2025, and Craig starts his new role on Monday, January 13, 2025 on NBC.

How long has Craig Melvin been on the Today show?

According to a report from Deadline and NBC Insider, Craig became an anchor on Today in August 2018. Meaning: Craig Melvin has been on Today for six years.

Though daytime TV viewers first met him in 2018, Craig has been on broadcast television for much longer than that. According to MSNBC.com, Craig was an evening news anchor for WIS in Columbia, South Carolina before becoming a weekend anchor for WRC (an NBC affiliate) in Washington, D.C. in 2008.

Craig joined MSNBC in July 2011, where he was a weekend anchor for the network through 2014. He later stepped away from the weekend desk to try his hand at other opportunities on MSNBC. Beginning in 2016, he became an anchor for MSNBC Live, which he did simultaneously with his work on Today. He eventually stepped down from MSNBC in 2022, choosing to focus fully on his daytime TV role.
