The Scream costars were married from 1999 to 2013, and share 20-year-old daughterCoco.

Following the success of 2023's Scream VI, which scored the biggest opening weekend box office for the entire franchise, a seventh film was announced that August.

But Arquette seemingly shot down hopes of Dewey returning to the franchise in July, after a fan called in to Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen to ask about potentially seeing his character "in some form," like a flashback sequence, in the upcoming Scream 7.

"I don't think so — I mean, I don't know!" said the actor, 53, with a laugh. "I guess there's a chance, but I haven't gotten any calls or anything."

He also denied that returning star Neve Campbell had "spilled any tea" to him about the upcoming movie, in which Campbell, 50, once again reprises her iconic final-girl role of Sidney Prescott.

As for Cox's involvement, she told Variety on Saturday that she hasn't "officially" signed on yet for Scream 7, in which she would reprise her role of news reporter/author Gale Weathers.

“They’re rewriting all the time. It’s not like I don’t know what’s going on," the Friends alum said.

Of creator Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original 1996 Scream and will direct for the first time with the upcoming movie, Cox told the outlet she's "excited" to see him in the director's seat.

“You can’t get better than that choice,” she said of Williamson, 59. “It’s going to be fun."
