Grandfather marries 21-year-old despite family objections

A couple with a 53-year age gap are now husband and wife, six months after going public with their relationship.

Milojko Bozic, 74, wed his 21-year-old bride Milijana Bogdanovic near their home in western Serbia—with the ceremony broadcast on televisions around the country.

For the couple, their big day was one hallmarked by a spectrum of emotions felt by newlyweds regardless of their life stage.

"I have been crying with happiness,” she told local media.

"Actually, I haven't cried, but I did shed a few tears."

However, unlike many of her contemporaries, Milijana also had to deal with family and friends’ often-critical perception of her relationship.

In fact, her parents or did not attend the ceremony and neither did her now-husband’s three children, all of who are more than twice her age.

“It was difficult for me that my parents weren't there, but my mother did send me a message," she said.

The marriage comes six months after the couple went public with Milijana adamant to show critics her love was legitimate.

“I really want to prove to people that this is the real thing between Milojko and me, and not a marketing trick like everyone says,” she said.

And while the pair may now be a picture of wedded bliss, their relationship hasn’t always been such smooth sailing.

After rising to notoriety on the reality show Couples, Milijana cheated on her then-fiancé with a younger man following Milojko’s elimination.

The infidelity wasn’t enough to curb the romance however, as the pair look forward to a life together ‘til death do them part.
