The only thing more exciting than a new product on Costco shelves is a hot new item on the Costco food court menu. From chicken bakes to churros, the food court options are such a beloved part of the shopping experience that when we do get the occasional menu change, it can send shockwaves—good or bad—through the Costco community.

Earlier this year, members were divided on a cold brew coffee treat, but now, they’ve discovered a new item to contend with: a brand-new chicken sandwich. Will it stand up to other food court favorites like the chocolate chip cookie, cheese pizza, or most importantly, the $1.50 hot dog combo? Believe us, fans have opinions.

Costco’s New Chicken and Bacon Sandwich

Costco just brought a new Chicken and Bacon Sandwich to the warehouse food court. The Southern-style sandwich features sliced oven-roasted chicken breast, cheddar cheese, a mayo and mustard blend, and a never-before-seen food court condiment: bacon jam.

The new addition was only recently spotted in warehouses, yet it has already sparked lots of commentary.

One customer pointed out that the biggest problem with the Costco sandwiches is the ciabatta bread, calling it “rock hard” and “kind of flavorless.” “It’s way too much bread and their ciabatta is always so dry,” commented another.

“Costco, if you’re listening, please stop with the ciabatta bread,” one user begged.

The sandwich is currently selling for $6.99—the same price as the turkey Swiss sandwich—which some think to be steep by Costco standards. On top of that, it’s 920 calories, which has come as a shock to some customers. “Almost a THOUSAND calories for a sandwich,” one user noted.

Some reviewers seem put off that the "bacon" label indicates a bacon jam rather than real bacon, saying, “bacon jam isn't bacon.” Others don’t agree on the choice of spread: “I wish they'd stop with the ‘mustard/mayo’ on every new sandwich."

“Mmmm a cold sandwich on cold hard bread! That's what I’m craving,” quipped another.

Still, some just seem reluctant to let go of their past food court favorites, saying, “How bout they just bring back the churros,” and “[I’d] rather have a combo pizza.”

“It’s like they don’t even try with our US food court anymore,” one user added.

However, a few reviewers have come to the sandwich’s defense, saying it’s “worth it” and “the bacon jam is fire.”

In our humble opinion, the new sandwich sounds like a fine meal for a mid-day shopping trip. But, if you firmly disapprove, a Costco food court employee shared some news you might be happy to hear. “What we’ve been told is that the higher up folks are gonna be rotating a new sandwich every few months,” they reported.

So, hang on to your memberships, folks—there are new food court options on the horizon.
