Elsa Pataky reveals the 'competitive' side of her marriage to Chris Hemsworth
They’re one of the most rock-solid celebrity couples around but according to actor Elsa Pataky, there’s no love lost between her and her husband, Avengers star Chris Hemsworth, 36, when it comes to fitness.
The Spanish-born beauty revealed to Yahoo Lifestyle on Wednesday that she and her hubby of nine years have a ‘fun’ rivalry during their shared workout sessions.
“We’re competitive with how we train, with how many reps we can do,” the 43-year-old, who was in Australia for the re-opening of luxury label Louis Vuitton’s Sydney CBD store, said.
Survival of the fittest
So, who’s the fittest, Elsa or Chris? Well, according to the mum-of-three, it ‘all depends’ on what type of exercise they’re tackling.
“Chris trains with weights, big weights, so I can’t compete,” Elsa laughs.
In a separate interview, the beefed-up actor’s very own personal trainer Da Rulk told Yahoo Lifestyle he “works incredibly hard” to achieve those rippling muscles.
Bulking up to play characters like Norse god Thor, however, appears to have at least one drawback.
“When it comes to running... [Chris] is more similar to me,” she adds with a smile.
Elsa gets STRONG
There’s one arena where Chris and Elsa are happy to call a truce and that’s their respective business ventures.
“We both love to be a part of each other’s projects,” the Tidelands star says.
Indeed, Elsa has been heavily involved in Chris’ successful workout, recipe and meditation app, Centr, which he launched in January this year.
Chris, it seems, has returned the favour, spruiking his wife’s brand new health and fitness book, STRONG ($25.29 from Abe Books), in a funny Instagram video.
“He was happy to promote the book,” Elsa laughed.
Elsa says she feels strong when she starts her day with a workout and counts yoga and horse-riding as two of her ‘passions’.
“I always have to train in the morning … it makes you feel better for the rest of the day, you feel strong,” she explained.
Liam ‘deserves better’
Earlier this week, Elsa took a swipe at her brother-in-law Liam Hemsworth’s soon-to-be-ex-wife Miley Cyrus, openly declaring that the Hunger Games star ‘deserves better’ than the “Slide Away” singer.
The Spanish-born star pulled no punches when asked how Liam was faring three months after his shock marriage breakdown at a launch event for lingerie brand Women’s Secret’s Christmas campaign in Madrid.
“My brother-in-law, well… After a relationship that you've dedicated ten years to, he's a little bit down, but he's coping well, he’s a strong boy and he deserves the best, I think he deserves much better,” she said, according to HOLA!.
“You always find support in your family, and he's joined at the hip with his brother, who has been there to give all the strength he needed,” she added, no doubt referring to Liam’s retreat to Chris and Elsa’s Byron Bay mansion following his August split from Miley.
The mum-of-three’s statement appears at odds with her and Miley’s years-long friendship, with the pals spotted on shopping trips, having lunch, at music festivals, and getting matching wave tattoos in the past.
Liam and Miley tied the knot in December 2018, but split less than eight months later. Photos then emerged of Miley kissing then-married reality star Kaitlynn Carter.
Miley is currently dating homegrown heartthrob and The Masked Singer winner, 22-year-old Cody Simpson, while Liam has been spotted getting cosy with Sydney-born actor Maddison Brown, 22.
