Chris Brown Sues Warner Bros. for $500M Over Allegations Made in ID Docuseries

Chris Brown is suing Warner Bros. for $500 million over sexual assault allegations presented in its docuseries Chris Brown: A History of Violence, which aired October 27 on Investigation Discovery.

In the lawsuit obtained by our sister site Variety, the R&B singer accuses the show’s producers (including Warner Bros. and Ample Entertainment) of libel and intentional infliction of emotional distress through defamatory claims made against him. He also alleges that the evidence provided in the series is completely false.

“To put it simply, this case is about the media putting their own profits over the truth,” the lawsuit reads. “Since the beginning of October of 2024, Ample LLC and Warner Brothers were put on notice that they were promoting and publishing false information in their pursuit of likes, clicks, downloads and dollars and to the detriment of Chris Brown. Ultimately, on October 27, 2024, they aired Chris Brown: A History of Violence (the ‘Documentary’), knowing that it was full of lies and deception and violating basic journalist principles.”

The lawsuit also alleges that Jane Doe’s claims used in the doc had been “discredited over and over,” and that she was “a perpetrator of intimate partner violence and aggressor herself.”

Chris Brown: A History of Violence “charts Chris Brown’s past all the way back to his troubled childhood, explores the lasting impact of the cycle of abuse, and poses the question: How does a man with such a violent public record maintain his superstar status?” reads the series’ official description. “With expert and cultural commentary layered throughout, the documentary provides thoughtful reflections into each survivor’s experience and the psychological destruction in the aftermath of their abuse.”
