Camila Mendes Debuts Fiery Red Hair and Fans Are Comparing Her to “Riverdale” Costar Madelaine Petsch

Camila Mendes is changing up her look!

On Sunday, Nov. 10, the actress debuted a shocking hair transformation that has fans comparing her to Riverdale costar Madelaine Petsch.

"Just a newly minted redhead with a flight delay and an empty bathroom all to herself," Mendes, 30, captioned an Instagram carousel showing off her new color. She also tagged her hair colorist, Matt Rez.

In the photos, the star, who typically rocks dark brunette locks, poses in an airport bathroom, her now-copper hair parted in the middle and styled into loose waves. Mendes also wears a taupe sweater and matching sweatpants with a khaki trench coat over top.

The new look quickly prompted fans to draw comparisons to Petsch's signature hair color.

"i seriously need to know that was madelaines reaction to this," one user commented on Mendes' post.

"embracing that cheryl blossom vibe !" said another, referencing Petch's Riverdale character.

Mendes, who played Veronica Lodge on Riverdale, starred on the CW Archie Comics adaptation alongside Petsch, 30, from 2017 to 2023. The cast also included Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Cole Sprouse as Jughead and KJ Apa as Archie Andrews.

Fans also pointed out that Mendes' red hair transformation could be for her upcoming role as Teela in Masters of the Universe. Per Variety, the live-action adaptation of the superhero franchise is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films and slated for worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2026.

Nicholas Galitzine is set to star as central hero and love interest of Teela, He-Man. Alison Brie rounds out the cast as supervillain Evil-Lyn.

An official synopsis explains that the film introduces a 10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword.

“After tracking it down almost two decades later,” the synopsis reads, “Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”
