All About Brooke Shields's Two Lookalike Daughters, Grier and Rowan

Brooke Shields' robust résumé includes award-winning actress, model, activist, businesswoman, author, and proud mom-of-two. And, judging by the way she uses any and every opportunity to gush over them, it's a pretty safe bet that mom is her favorite hat to wear. The Endless Love star's life changed forever on May 15, 2003, when she officially entered motherhood, with the birth of her daughter Rowan, and then again three years later when she welcomed her second daughter, Grier. It was doubly pivotal, as Shields struggled with fertility issues for years.

It's pretty clear that Rowan and Grier, whom she shares with her husband Chris Henchy (the two married on April 4, 2001), are the lights of her life. She was ever the doting mom while speaking with People in March 2023 when she called them "confident and free." She continued: "I'm proud of them speaking their mind. They are young women who are already beginning to find their own agencies."

Part of that agency has meant flying the coop to pursue a college education. Such milestones have left Shields grappling with being an empty nester. “All of a sudden, they’re not yours anyone,” she told People in August 2024. “When you realize they are their own human beings, you get to meet them again. To have them reveal themselves to you, it’s a new type of relationship. I didn’t mold them, but I protected them enough so that they could become who they are and I got out of the way," she said, adding that she sees her children as "friends."

Rowan Francis Henchy

Shields and Henchy entered parenthood when they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Rowan Francis Henchy, on May 15, 2003. Rowan's arrival came after Shields underwent seven rounds of fertility treatments. Just like her mom, Rowan is New York City born and bred, and that's not the only way she takes after the Blue Lagoon star. Rowan looked like every inch the spitting image of her mom during her 2021 high school prom. Then, the eldest daughter wore Shields's iconic red-hot 1998 Golden Globes dress, which she donned while nominated for Suddenly Susan.

Shields and Rowan followed up with another twin moment just weeks later when they got matching lady bug tattoos as Rowan's graduation gift. "A special graduation gift and memory with my girl 🐞 I’m so proud of you, I love you more than words can say," the model captioned a commemorative Instagram post.

In August 2021, Rowan started at Wake Forest University, which incited a lot of emotions for her mom. "My unique and extraordinary baby girl spreading her wings. I love you so. We are so proud of you. This was the saddest drive away from anywhere I’ve ever had to make. But my baby is BEGINNING one of the most important adventures of her life to date…NOW!" Shields captioned a carousel of images and videos from campus.

The actress opened up about her daughter flying the coop once again while appearing on Live With Kelly and Ryan, describing it as the "worst thing I've ever experienced in my life." She also told People (the TV Show!), "I'm not ever going to get used to her being gone. She's going to be married with her own children, and I'm still not going to be used to her being gone."

Grier Hammond Henchy

The Shields-Henchys became a family of four on April 18, 2006, with the arrival of Grier Hammond Henchy, who was born in Los Angeles. In a funny coincidence, Grier shares a birthday with Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise's daughter, Suri Cruise, who was born in the same hospital. Shields opened up about the occurrence on Dirty Sexy Funny with Jenny McCarthy, explaining to the host that she used an alias at the hospital for the sake of privacy. When she saw helicopters and news reporters outside, she assumed someone had tipped off the media, but a nurse calmed her fears by telling her, "Honey, it's not for you...It's Katie and Tom."

Grier is truly her mom's mini-me, not just by appearance but via a shared penchant for fashion. The two have stepped out together at many glamorous events, including Milan Fashion Week, where they matched in leather ensembles. And, Grier has become known to shop in her mom's closet.

"If I want to know where anything good that I have is, and I can't find it in my closet, I know exactly where to find it. It's [Grier!]" Shields said during a November 2021 interview with People.

In a sentimental moment, Grier paid tribute to the matriarch while attending the March 2023 premiere of Shields's Hulu documentary Pretty Baby by wearing a vintage Dolce & Gabbana suit that Shields wore on Suddenly Susan.

Grier has also started to carve out a career as a model. She was featured in Victoria's Secret's 2022 Mother's Day campaign alongside her mom. While Shields was proud to see her daughter living her dream, she did have some hesitations.

"I finally had to give in and say, 'If you’re gonna do this, I’m not gonna be your manager. You're going to be with an agency. You’re going to have a great work ethic. It’s not going to be comfortable. You're gonna listen to me. And you're going to college,' " Shields explained during an interview on Live with Kelly and Mark.

Shields gave some more insight into Grier's personality in August 2024, when she told People that her youngest daughter is "extremely loyal and strong in her opinions." She added, “She has a good judgment of other people's character. She’s very funny when she lets her guard down a little. It’s often up but that’s okay."
